***Chemistry - Fall 2005***

Published

Who else is taking Chemisrty this semester? I thought maybe we can check in with each other, and help each other out.

If there is enough of us maybe we can even get a sticky.

I am taking Health Science Chemistry 1.

Specializes in Operating Room.

Well, at least we can laugh about them now. lol

We have 5 exams, and all of them count, but luckily for this class, we have other grades to count.

500 pts: EXAMS

250 pts: LABS

100 pts: PRESENTATIONS

50 pts: MISCELLANEOUS (In-Class Projects & Quizzes)

100 pts: COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM

15 pts: HOMEWORK (Extra Credit)

The first day of class the instructor said that the final was not comprehensive, so I'm not sure how that is handled. I guess he averages the 5? ?????? I need to get him to clarify that.

A = 895-1000

B = 800-895

C = 650-795

OK, that is from our syllabus. I'm not sure if you get an A or a B with 895 points, nor what happens if you get 796-799 points. LOL

...and I'm not planning on getting anywhere close to 650 points, so I'm not even going to think about the 0 - 650 points!! :)

LOL. On the test today I almost put one milligram is equal to 1 gram. It took me a few minutes to realize that didn't work. LOL! I knew it looked wrong. Thank goodness I caught that or I would have gotten 5 points knocked off.

My wrong answer last time was not reading ALL the answers. Had I, I would have known it was D all of above for heterogenous mixtures instead of just the one answer I was so mad at myself. Oh well, what is really cool is we are having 12 "performances" and the 7 best ones count plus we use help sheets! The rest are just thrown out so this one might be my throw aways. I could not seem to grasp unit conversion.

LOL 650-0- Season Pass to Chem in the Spring HEHEHE

MIne:

4 formal individual lab reports 4 x5 =20 points

7 best performances (No. 11 and 12 will count)= 7 x 10 =70 points

1 compulsory final: 1 x 10 pints= 10 points

Over 90 A

80-89-B

70-79 C

60-69 D

Below 59- F

Specializes in Operating Room.

Season pass? Well, they do have to pay again...lol

Those getting 0-650 can just consider this semester a "Fall Preview"! 00000006.gif

Sorry about those not doing so well, but if I get close to that 0-650 mark by the time the drop date comes around, I'd be outta there....and would consider this semester a fall preview. :)

there you go pay per Preview

Specializes in Operating Room.
there you go pay per Preview

lol

Well, I can say, if this ends up being a preview for me, HOPEFULLY, I will not be taking it again during the Spring. lol

HOPEFULLY, I will be in nursing school come January! lol

Specializes in Operating Room.

Uh, I've totally lost it. I can't remember how to do the Stoichiometry problems we learned Monday!

I'll definitely be going into tutoring Thursday!!!!

(Don't want that paid per preview deal!!!)

What is Stoichiometry??? I've not heard of it in my chem yet (we're on Ch 3).

I doubt you'll have do the PPPV deal !

Just wanted to drop by and say that I hope everyone is grasping chemistry. Me, I was totally lost and dropped it. (Couldn't let it hurt my GPA) Good luck to everyone who is still taking it. I hope you all get an A.:wink2:

Princess74, I thought I had it grasped. I'll have to go to tutoring Thursday &/or Friday!

twoanddone: We are learning to balance equations, find the grams per molecule, how many molecules per compound, etc.

Questions like: How many C atoms are in 64g of CH4? or How many molecules of CH4 are in 64g of CH4?

Not really hard, I've just forgotten what I'm supposed to do. So, I'm going through my notes to try to figure out what I did. (Everything is so easy in class, then you get it home and think, what the.......?????????? 00000013.gif

Well, today's class didn't help at all!!! I think I'm going back up to the school for tutoring. (Maybe even tomorrow & Friday too b/c our test is Monday!)

I don't want to drop this class, at least w/o knowing I did all I could!!!!

I'm enjoying the lab portion though. I chose my group's presentation to be (and they agreed):

Styrene Vs. Glucose

Battle of the Polymers

(ok, I had to come up with an interesting name...lol ...."Melting Styrofoam Peanuts" seemed boring! ahhaha

This page has a video you can watch:

I can't wait to do it, sure hope I'm still in the class by then. 00000030.gif

OH, okay we are just now getting to the periodic table with what mass and atomic number and weight means.

I find out tomorrow how my test went WOOHOO> I may or may post to let ya'll know. I might be to ashamed to tell! :imbar

We have just finished measurements and density and then temperature. Today was actually our first lab which was over measurements and than on Friday we are going over atoms and he said he will do a review for the first test and we will have a week, I think, before taking the actual test. He can be frustrating at times because last class he said this paper he handed out was just for us to look at and to do on our own time but now it is actually homework that we needed to turn in. I think he forgets a lot of stuff. Today was our actually first day in turning something in and that was the lab paperwork. So far so good. I understand the measurements and all and hopefully I will remember about the atoms and elements. Good luck to everyone!!
