Is there already a thread for those of us taking Chemistry this fall? I know I could definitely use one!
My class starts the 31st.
I feel really bad about what is ensue for me.
Today in class, my chemistry professor said that this was the worst test she has ever graded
in a class. She announced that so far only one person got an A and that "A" is a 97.5% and because
one person got an "A" she was not going to curve. I hope she finishes
grading the rest of the tests and tells us that someone else got an A or there are lots of Bs.
I hope I get an A or atleast a B+. I did all the practice problems and even went to recitation. I didn't go
to the Learning Center for tutoring because chemistry usually comes easy to me. I got a 99% on
the first test but I guess this test was really hard. Actually, I didn't understand like 3 problems on the test
but that was it. I am SO scared...
Chemistry is killing me. This is my final prerequisite and I also think it is going to take all chances away from getting into nursing school. I'm taking the class online with labs done at home. I work 12 hour shifts in a hospital as a CNA and also substitute teach so the Online class is necessary.
I've failed 2 exams but got an 80% & a 90% on 2 other ones; I've gotten 100% on my first 3 labs. I enjoy the labs. I just don't understand the math calculations AT ALL! I read all the material/ review the Power Points/ complete the practice problems, etc. so it's not that I'm not doing the work.
The funny part of this...well, it really isn't funny...many, many years ago I was in a BSN program (4 year state college) and I transferred out from nursing because I couldn't get through chemistry then! I did get my BA and eventually got my MA (in education/ curriculum & instruction).
It is extremely frustrating to be confronted with material that makes absolutely no sense to me....Ok, thanks for listening. I just needed to vent.
So I just found this thread now, half way through the semester. LOL
How is everyone doing? I have to say that after a more that 15 year break and previously having hated anything to do with science, I am doing very well in my intro to bio chemistry.
Is anyone on this thread going to Tri-c in Ohio?
I whined earlier in this thread about the Mastering Chemistry homework that has to be done each week. I guess I have to eat my words, the homework is definitely helping me, and is probably the reason I went from a 70 to a 97 on my tests. I don't know that I would push myself on my own to do all the practice problems without the required homework aspect.
I feel for you Sart 45, I know I wouldn't be able to handle a class like this online. I would recommend using any online resources provided by the textbook company and extra information off the web, including youtube video lectures and anything made by other chemistry students. I have used these videos for chem and microbiology a lot this term, I wish I had thought of this back in A&P I.
Best, L.
Thanks JustBee,
I do use the text site as well as You Tube. Also Khan Academy...great information and it actually makes sense; the guy explaining is funny. I used that site also for Microbiology and it did help. I'll keep you informed; taking another exam tomorrow:confused:...and turned in a lab this morning.

I just got my second test score today, an A! After getting a low C on the first test I am psyched that I got such a good grade. I studied a lot, there are no shortcuts for me in this class. I have to review and practice a lot, so i'ts turning into a very time intensive class for me, but I do find the material interesting and useful.:)
Best wishes to all the other chem students, L.
