Chemistry Fall 2010

Published

Is there already a thread for those of us taking Chemistry this fall? I know I could definitely use one!

My class starts the 31st.

How is everyone doing? We had our first midterm on tuesday, and I thought it went ok. So we have two quizzed and one midterm down, four quizzes and two midterms to go. Plus final. Trying to stay focused.

I do have to say that my class is driving me crazy. They are the biggest bunch of entitled whiners I've ever encountered. I actually a headache after class from being so annoyed.

That is unfortunate your class is annoying. A few more months and it will be over! I am doing well in my chem class, and I actually really enjoy it. We have had one test, several quizzes, and several lab reports. Our next test is in about two weeks. I make sure to do a lot of extra practice problems, and I find this really helps.

I just started my chem class this week, so far so good, but I am still feeling nervous. My teacher does not speak english as a first language so at times I find it rather difficult to understand what he is saying. I have taken general chem before and am re-taking it to get my gpa up for nursing school. I am hoping that since I took it already it will all start to come back to me as we go , although I have not taken Chem since 2003.:uhoh21:

Just took my first chem exam this week(we've had labs and quizzes). I am anxiously awaiting my grade. I won't find out until next week! I think I did OK but I'm second guessing myself and stressing.

I'm still plugging along in the Organic half of our chem class right now. It's actually pretty interesting and so far I'm doing OK. I find it WAY easier than gen chem... go figure!

doing awesome here! I'm actually enjoying this class, which is funny because I expected to hate it! (all that math eck!) I got a 99 on the first test (next highest grade was an 89, so I'm pretty darned happy about that; especially since I'm a good 5 years older than everyone else in the class, and the only one with kids) Next test is going to be tough, we've got to memorize all the polyatomic ions (their chemical formula, name, and charge!) I've got my flashcards and they come with me everywhere - my oldest was quizzing me in the checkout line at the grocery on sunday, lol!

I just got back my first Chem test and I made a 79. I was certainly hoping for better but it is above the class average (which was 62). I want to do much better on the next exam. So far I've made a hundred on on the quizzes/ daily questions so I'm still doing OK but I'd like to get an A in the class. Congrats to all those who did well on their first test! I've also started working on memorizing the Polyatomic ions for the next exam.

That's fantastic! I'm thirty-one and have two children. My son helps me study too, someone asked the other day about what I was helping him study and I told them that he was helping me! I'm enjoying Chem a lot more than I thought I would, but I'm taking A&P 201 too this semester and they are both study intensive courses. I find myself neglecting Chemistry a little because I'm so busy studying A&P. I'm also working on learning the polyatomic ions. What book is your class using?

I'm 33, with 4 boys (11, 9, 6.5, and 4) It's been very challenging finding time to study in between all their stuff! I'm taking nutrition also this semester, and not enjoying that class at all (but I think that's because it's online, and I really enjoy the classroom interaction)

We're using Chemisty: A Molecular Approach by Tro, and mastering chemistry for homework. The textbook is pretty easy to understand, far better than what I remember from high school (a long time ago, lol!)

I am taking chemuistry this fall, just a general Chemistry course, but taught by the chair of Chemistry... the beggining was way too much math and trig for word problems, now, that we are in actual chemistry work, I enjoy it. I do not need Chemistry to become an RN, but I will need it when I go for my BSN. Good luck to everyone, and if anyone needs any help with general chemistry... I will try to help you, just message me.

how's everyone coming along? e've got our 2nd test tonight; on binary/ternary/transition metal ionic compounds, binary molecular compounds, balancing equations, molarity, solution concentrations, acids/bases, empirical and molecular formulas and precipitate solutions. My head hurts from studying so much!

Good luck on your test tonight! We have our second test tomorrow. I feel pretty confident in the material, and I am actually really excited to take the exam! Our test is going to be on subatomic particles, writing chemical formulas and names, drawing covalent compounds, molecular geometry, bond polarity, attractive forces, and periodic trends. Our third test is about two weeks after this exam, and it will cover molar and gram conversions, balancing chemical formulas, types of chemical reactions, and gas laws/equations. I made a 98.5 percent on our first test, and I am hoping to do even better on tomorrow's test.
