here we go, for those who wanted to get started on chem early. listed are some sites that should help. take the time to browse them all and find what works best for you and your prof.....some sites are basic chem and some more advanced. please feel free to add something i might have missed to help us along the way.

thankyou to all on allnurses that contributed these sites.

how to write a science paper

http://aerg.canberra.edu.au/pub/aerg/edupaper.htm

Hi all,

Well, we got the scores from our second quiz back on Wed. night and I'm disappointed I missed an A by 2 points. I admit it was my fault for slacking and cramming for studying for this quiz between moving and other tasks but at least I accept full responsibility for the outcome of my grade...others in the class--not so well. A couple of students didn't think it was fair that there were a couple of difficult questions that he supposedly didn't go over in class or specifically state that they were going to be on the quiz. Needless to say, there was heated discussion on Wed. night. On the professors behalf, he did go over an example in class and he did have a similar question on the sample quizzes he provides on the class blog.

I need to keep my nose to the grindstone. We're beginning the chapter on Atomic theory this week and the first 2 sections are over my head. Good luck this week everyone!

Hi Phoenix Rising,

Give yourself some props--Getting a B on a test that you had to "cram" on is really quite good. Nothing to get down about and I'm sure your disappointment will only drive you to do better on other exams. Don't be too hard on yourself--chemistry is one of the harder sciences.

I just had my first test (first of four and he drops the lowest grade) and even though I did get an A it was a Very low A. I know how you feel though, as I'm kicking myself too for not doing better. And, ps, that was with probably 12-14 hours a week worth of studying...:specs:

Ok guys I am done with panic mode. I took my time through the chapters, worked all the problems, and I'm up to speed now.

I still need to remember when to use the different naming methods (roman numerals, or the prefixes, ect). That will just take more practice. Overall I am in a much better place than I was after class last Thursday. I am pretty happy, because our next test will be on these concepts, and I'm getting most of the problems correct. Thanks for all the help guys. :yeah:

Well, I'm focusing on prep and review for our quiz coming up. The focus will be on Atomic theory and electron configuration. The latter is slowly sinking in...I just hope I remember the order of the orbitals. The chemreview site has been a helpful aid. Thanks for posting!

I didn't do as well as I expected on my first exam :( Guess I need to tweak my study habits.

It will be ok! At least now you know what to expect of the tests and you'll rock the next one!

My Chemistry professor rocks! I know I didn't get A for my first reading quiz but I know I won't give up! This is the first week of school so next it will be A! Now I know what to expect so I will do it fine! :) And... chemistry is not so hard as I expect :)

Biology...that is another story...but I won't give up too :)

My biggest issue with chemistry is that I just don't care about it... :chuckle The work itself isn't actually that difficult, it just doesn't intrigue me, I don't see the point, I don't care about valence electrons, I don't care how the pH has changed to this beaker of water when we add 5 drops of the solution, I don't care about chromatography or precipitate... I just don't care... which makes it a little hard to sit focused through the class!

I had to smile when I read your post. I am just the opposite! I am always saying, "Chemistry is EVERYTHING!". :) But I suspect most students are not so enthusiastic... My professor told me on more than one occasion that it's very nice to see a student react with a "How cool is THAT?" look on her face during lecture. I'm sure he gets tired of seeing students nodding off and yawning.

Different strokes for different folks, eh?

Good luck in your Chem class!

Whoever the genius was that suggested a wipe-board for practicing O-Chem molecules and reactions....YOU ARE BRILLIANT! I have been hunkering down with my wipe board a few nights a week and can go through a couple of hours of practice without getting a hand cramp, without wasting paper and without straining my eyes to see!

I can also do it with a funny movie on!!!

Great idea....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!:yeah:

I posted this link in another chemistry-related discussion, but wanted to post it here as well. It's a great resource I found for free chemistry help. Much better than Yahoo Answers. It's

http://mychemistrytutor.com

There are high school, AP, General (college) and Organic forums. There's some profs who answer questions, too. Awesome!

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got a 94 on my 1st test, and as of now i don't have anything lower than a 95 on my quizzes!!!!!

:crying2: i'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

keep up the good work yall!!! ANYTHING is possible if i can get an A lol
