I am starting Chem II this semester. Anyone want to start a club???
Hey guys. So far I have been loving Chemistry and have high A's on all my labs, quizzes and exams. But this last test we took on Tuesday was a rough one. I think I would be lucky to score a 70 or 75. The test was on the Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gas - definitions and problems. That was pretty easy and I did well on that part. But the part on acids and bases and the reactions did me in. I thought I had studied pretty well but don't think I did as well as I could. Did anyone have any trouble on the acids and bases. the pH = -log [H30+] was pretty easy too.
Just whining alittle . . . thinks for listening.

I am glad your enjoying it so much, I am too and if anyone had told me 5 years ago or even 5 months ago I would be loving chemistry I would have thought they needed medical help hehee.
I just got my score for my last exam I felt the same way as you I thought for sure I bombed it, I had to really guess on most of the m/c questions with a little info I had thought I knew the questions how he words them are so hard! I just got my grade though and I got a 94 yay! boy that felt good seeing that. The class average says is 49. that really irks me his highest average on the tests were 71 I was able to get A's on all of mine without the curve but I feel bad for others its not a matter of knowing the material for this guy either its figuring out how he words his questions.
Help! Help! I'm working on some post lab questions and I'm at a total loss with this one. Here it goes:
You have a 5% formic acid (HCOOH) solution and a 5% vinegar (CH.COOH) solution. You determine each solution's acid concentration by titrating 5 mL of each with 0.2000 M NaOH. Which solution contains more acid? Show your calculations.
How do I even start to set this up? Our lab class is ahead of our lecture class, so that adds to the confusion! Help, please!
Thanks,
Miranda

Well, I worried for nothing. Overall he said all of our grades were pretty bad and a few were good. He said he pretty much had to do a curve. Without the curve I made an 84 . . . with the curve, I made a 92. I was in shock!!! So, I am very happy!!
Miranda, we have not done titration or I would try to help you. Sorry.

Awesome!! I was stressed about my last test we took last week too. I ended up with a 94! wahhooooo. My teacher grades on a curve at the end of the semester with 81 and higher being an A. Which is good as his class average is like a 54 its been a ridiculious class I am glad its nearly over. I enjoyed the subject so much and will probably take another Chem somewhere down the line but boy I hated this instructor, he so doesn't know how to teach!
please someone tell me how hard is chem...i need to take it, but i keep putting it off from fear. what if i cannot get it? or what if my math isnt' strong enough, please any suggestions will help!!! any advice, help sites..anything..thanks you all.nurse2b_amy:crying2:
i don't think its hard at all but had a fear it would be. it does require a lot of work if you are not used to this science or not being really strong in math. there is a lot of vocab that is not familiar too and you will need to learn that. i put in about 10 extra hours a week on my chem i do all the homework assignments, review my notes and study the chapter on my own before going to class. there is a lot of math i honestly had no clue it would be all math but it is lol. if you can do formulas and know some algebra you will do fine. we had a test the first day to see where we were on math and to see what kind of calculations you would need to know. the first unit was all dimensional analysis (which we used in dosage calculation class too so very handy to learn). then after that if you can manipulate for mulas to isolate items you will do great.
Hey guys, I am doing some final review before exams next week. I want to double check to make sure I am doing this problem right. Can someone double check me on these:
Basic mole problem:
2Mg + O2 ---> 2MgO
How many moles of magnesium are needed to react with 16 g of O2?
I came up with: 16 g O2 x 1 mol O2/32.00 g O2 x 2 mol Mg/1 mol 02 = 1.0 mole
and one more:
The number of moles of O2 gas needed to react with 4.0 moles of Mg:
4.0 mole Mg x 1 mole O2/2 mole Mg = 2.0 mole O2
I think I am over thinking these and making it too hard on myself.
Thanks for your help.
Hi Guys,Was just informed that I don't need CHM. I am actually planning on apply for the 14months ABSN in UNC-chapel hill.
Goodluck guys!!!
We are told we don't need Chem either for our program however if you look into the details we find that that Chem although not a requiremtent for nursing is required for other classes. Its a good course to take regardless most of the sciencest dealing in chemistry alot.

way to go that is quite an accomplishment!!!
