Anyone else applying for the 2017 entrance? I'm taking CHEM 110 and BIO231 this fall, and hoping to take BI 232, 233, PSY 201 and CIS 101 this winter before applying. I already have a bachelors degree which should cover the other pre-reqs. Do you basically have to have a perfect score to get in? Does anyone know more about it? Their information is so lacking!
I know! Especially since I was able to go to the first week of classes and orientation. So, during orientation they will give you everything you need: syllabus, schedule, some papers to sign, getting our new badges, etc. How the schedule looked like last year was Monday-Thursday there was "theory" classes which is just lecture and we wear normal clothes and it goes from 8am-12pm (mostly sometimes we get out earlier) and then Friday we have lab which we wear our uniforms. The first week lab runs from 8-4, but after that they separate us into 2 groups: group 1 will be in the morning (8-11am) and group 2 will in the afternoon (12-3pm). Sometimes things change, they say to keep your schedule open Monday-Friday till 4pm.There will be times when we have lab on Thursdays and Fridays; also, sometimes we will have days where we wont have class at all, just depends on what they need to teach and all.
We do not start clinical till mid-end of November. They told us at orientation how they pick where you go is based on where you live. So make sure your mychemeketa is the right address. The lab groups 1 and 2 are picked at random. They let students switch lab groups if they had someone willing to switch them.
Oh and another helpful thing to learn over the summer:::
So every term there is a Math test you have to pass 100% They give you practice tests on elearn and everything. Its a lot of converting story problems. you get 4 attempts to pass it. The units you need to know by heart is:
1kg=2.2 lb 100mL=1L 1000milliunits=1 unit
1kg=100g 5mL= 1tsp 1oz = 30mL
1000mg=1g 3tsp=1T Military time
1000mcg=1mg
Hey! Was just writing down the units you said we need to know. There are two errors:
100mL = .1L. I think you meant 1000mL = 1L
and
1kg = 1000g not 100g
:)
Oh man! I had my second TB test done this week and it was due to be read between yesterday afternoon and this coming afternoon. I just get them done during my normal work hours so I don't forget and I forgot!!! I got off work at 0100, at 0200 I saw a picture of a syringe on FB and was like oh crap! Luckily I live 5 minutes from work and quick ran in to get it read! Phew! I did not want to have to do another test! Just have to get one MMR vaccine and I'm gold for the cpr/ vaccine portion of the requirements!
i am all done with all my immunizations. Just finished my second TB screen yesterday, just need the CPR class which for me is on the 12th.
In case no one knows on here: --------------- put up a Facebook page for us. Search under group for "2019 Chemeketa Nursing Students". So far there is only 24 students (and 2 faculty) in the group still... which I am pretty surprised people haven't jumped on it! haha I figured maybe some students haven't looked at their emails or blackboard yet.
@sbaker47 Congrats on the scholarship! I received an email for one too today!! I faxed my immunizations last week but I never heard if they received it, so I emailed them today and they confirmed that they have it. I can't wait to finally start!
@sbaker47 are you on the Nursing class facebook group page yet?
I am on the Facebook, I'm the one that posted about possibly getting an updated schedule to plan life.
They just confirmed my immunization packet was complete. Not sure if they do that for everyone, I personally asked for confirmation because I had several pieces of paper for proof of positive tigers and different immunizations over the years.
BI 231 doesn't count for points if I remember correctly. So as long as you get a B or above in 232 and 233 you should be golden as far as points go. I maybe be wrong. With the Kaplan deciding the fate of so many pre nursing students, it's best to go in with full points. I don't know anyone who had Cs on the point sheet. Sorry you are struggling, summer classes are rough.
Hi all!
I'm still finishing up pre reqs and will be applying for Chemeketa's program along with others to start up next fall. I'm curious though, do any of you know how many applications Chemeketa receives each year?
Also, did any of you look into Concordia's nursing program? Curious to know your thoughts.
