Good luck to you! I applied three times before getting in but with an 86 I’m sure you will be accepted ? it is going great! Chemeketa is one of the best programs in Oregon and the pandemic has shown that. The instructors have done everything in their power to help us succeed. It is really fast paced now that we are in Spring term. I’m sad to leave the first year instructors after everything we’ve gone through, you sort of become a family if that makes sense.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Would you have any advice or suggestions for incoming students? (As someone who has no healthcare experience, I am a bit nervous as to what to expect) Thanks!

Thank you!! Chemeketa has always been my first choice and program I hope I get into, everyone says how the best nurses come from this program. I’m glad it’s going great for you!! Is it as challenging as you thought or expected?

My biggest suggestion would be to give yourself grace. You’re going to go into the program with the mindset that you had while taking prerequisites and the first test that you get a B or a C will crush you. You will learn that exam grades don’t define what kind of nurse you will be. You are in the program and you’re no longer competing, you’re becoming a nurse!! Ask questions! Soak it all in. This is the one time that you will be able to ask whatever questions because once you graduate you’ll be thrown into the fire and can’t always have things clarified. When you go to clinicals ask your preceptor everything! Trust me, if they see that you are interested they will teach you so much more! Lastly, enjoy your Summer. You will have a month off between fall and Winter term, but only a week for Spring break. Also, set up a self care routine. I felt burnt out during fall term because I went way too hard. It really is an amazing time. It’s the most stressful but best experience I’ve ever gone through.

It is challenging. But I will say in different ways than you will experience. Our year started off fully online. We didn’t get to go to skills lab and only 3 clinicals fall term. We had to take every exam at home and it was recorded to make sure nobody cheated. This term we get to take exams on campus, so we are paving the way to getting us back on campus by proving we can follow guidelines. The material is pretty heavy but you wilI find a way to study that works for you. I have to study a few hours each day with 1-2 days off from studying a week to be successful.

Do you have any study resources that have helped you with the lecture portion of the program? Also, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the program despite the inevitable stress that comes along with it. Hope the rest of this term goes smooth for you!

Thank you for all the helpful suggestions!! I appreciate it so much! I’m so happy to hear that your experience has been so good. I’m sure it must have been stressful with everything being online in the beginning. Regardless I’m glad to hear that you are finally getting to go back on campus. Good luck on your nursing journey! I’m positive you will make an amazing nurse!!

Just got this email from Karyna,

”Last year the lowest score that was admitted last year before alternates were offered a spot in the program was 332 points. The alternate list ranged from 332-329 points.”

We shall see! I am hoping. I have heard quite a few people received maximum points as well. My concern is 40 or more potentially earned full points and the selection process will come down to a luck of the draw tie-breaker haha. But I am just conjuring worst-case scenario thoughts in this terrible period of waiting.

I scored a 91% and a tie breaker is my worst nightmare hahaha I wonder how often that happens.

That email gives me so much hope! Thank you for sharing. But there seems to be a lot of competition this year as there are people from last year reapplying and I’m seeing everyone have similar scores. Is it June yet?!

How many times do people apply before giving up? This is my third year and I'm sitting at 331. If I don't get in this year, I think I will just take a break from pursuing nursing. Each year I just get more and more discouraged.
