Hello Everybody!!

I thought I would go ahead and start a thread for the CHEM-101 online class for the Summer of 09.

Hopefully this can be a place where we can help each other out if any of us get confused!

I don't have any practice labs either. I figured he was going to allow access to things slowly so we don't get overwelmed (?).

I've just been reading the chapter, doing the practice quizzes and waiting for a lab or quiz to appear. I'm sure once it gets started we'll be up to our noses in work. I stink at those density problems (pg 22-23) so I'm glad it is too overloaded right now. I am ready to see a credit quiz just so I can know what to expect.

Did u see we have to write a research paper- Ouch! I don't know how good mine will be - I don't really find chemistry that exciting to be honest.

Our syllabus shows us only go to chapter 9 this semester so that's a relief!

I'm confused....How can the same professor let some classes have access to labs and quizzes and other classes don't have access? I have finished 2 credit quizzes and the 1st lab. I would contact him and see what the deal is...

It is a 50 point paper. That is not a deal breaker. I imagine we can score a 40 providing the paper is not too long..... I am up to speed now that I have the correct syllabus and section number. My system check says I cannot do the LAB because I am running a MAC operating system, I contacted IVY support and they said to "disregard all is ok" as ong as I am using a Firefox browser (which I am) But I sent the same question to Latenite help line and they told me to contact the Instructor. What a joke. I hope this is the only glitch with Latenite. I took English 112 on-line and found myself running in to the nearest campus to submit papers on a campus puter for Blackboard all the time.

50 points for the paper- sweeet! I didn't look at how many pts it is worth. That won't be too critical then.

I hope you don't have too many probs with the lab site. I've been lucky so far with that regard. Oops, should'nt have said that....Jinx!!! haha.

Page 10 of the syllabus says "Each credit quiz will appear on the e-learning site by monday of........" What is or where is the e-learning site??????? I assume its blackboard but ??

Mamafor2...are you able to take the quiz as many times as you want, or just once?

After all of the conversions and density, I'm nervous to take the first quiz now! I think I'm going to copy down the basic conversions and formulas that are listed in the book so I have those at hand. It scares me that we only have a couple minutes for each question.

Let's see..... It will depend on what class you are in. From what I remember, you can only take the quiz one time. You can not leave the quiz or you will be locked out. I believe you have 40 minutes to take the quiz and it was enough time to complete and review your answers before you submit. My heart was beating like crazy with the first quiz. Funny huh? I will say that the second quiz has a lot of computation on it. Have paper, extra pencil and calculator at hand. There were a few multiple choice questions but the rest was fill in the answer with numbers. Don't get freaked out with large numbers and not being able to put them is scientific notation. Well I suppose you could... not required.... and I don't know if the test program is set up to accept answers in that form. Anyway, good luck.....I've had way too much coffee!

mama- you've taken a 2nd quiz already in your class or have you taken our class before?

sorry...i got confused. I haven't had ANY caffeine today and I'm not very focused. =)

If our quiz pops up and someone takes it, let me know if you are able to retake it- if you figure it out or whatever.

You're ok IndyIvy.......We are in different classes and so the presentation of the quizzes are different. The professor has posted the first two exams and I have completed those. I suppose he will post the next two starting Monday. Are you taking any other classes? I find when the instructors don't post all exams, it is hard to work ahead in the class.
