Cheap blood titers in las vegas?

I'm just curious. What school in LV? I am unaware of needing shot records from childhood. I do know vaccines are required for CSN, but it doesn't mention past records...I might well be in your situation if that's the case.

Anyway, good luck in school. I start pre-recs in August at CSN. Hoping for a Fall 09 NS start.

I did mine through UNLV's health clinic -- but I don't think NSC has any type of health clinic. I don't know of any cheap alternative's .. I think it is going to have to be through your physician.

Most nursing programs I've looked into in NV require proof of two MMR (typically done throughout childhood), Hep B, a current Tetorifice, and a two-step PPD.

From CSN's page for their RN program, for example:

Students accepted into the program will be required to show proof of CPR certification, health insurance, immunization against Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Tetorifice, Diphtheria and proof of a negative TB skin test. A physical examination must also be completed. This documentation is due at the mandatory advising session held during the week before classes begin each semester.

Since you're just starting prereq's, it's never too early to get your documentation prepared. Don't do the TB skin test too early though, they usually need to be done on a yearly basis from when you start the program.

Perhaps ask someone at your nursing school to suggest places you can obtain adult immunizations. I'm surprised to hear that the health department won't do adult MMR.

Hey Dee,

I'm in the same boat as you because I cannot locate my records. I called the health district and the guy assured me that we can get all of our immunizations from them, including the MMR. I hope he gave me correct info. I plan on going down there this week, so I will let you know what happens!

I went to the health district and got both MMR and Hep B. This was in early 2006, so unless they have changed their policy since, they should do the MMR. I went though my PCP for my titers, and my insurance paid for that, but the rest was through the health district. I thought they were quite expensive, too.

Ok, so I called the Health District back and spoke with a different person. They now say they do adult immunizations. Here is the cost breakdown they gave me:

MMr - $65

Tetorifice-Dip - $40

Hep B - $45

chicken pox - $90

I called the lab my doctor's office uses for titer prices because I know my insurance won't cover it. And here are there prices:

MMRTiter - $399.50

Hep panel (titer for all Heps) - 171.30

No matter which way I look at it I'm going to be spending some cash. I think I'll ask my dr when I go for my physical next week what I should do. I hate the thought of getting alot of shots all at once but I may have to. Ugh.

So, I got into nursing school, but the hurdles are still not over. I need proof of my shots (MMR, etc from when I was like 2) as well as needing to get additional shots. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of my shot records, my pediatrician is retired and didn't keep a copy, my mom moved and she lost her copy, my old schools didn't retain a copy, etc. I called the Southern Nevada Health District and they will do the tetorifice and that sort of stuff but do not do blood titers or MMR shots for adults. I have a doctor's appt. next week for my physical and will ask her to order the titers, chest xray and stuff but it will be expensive because my health insurance does not pay for employment or school medical expenses. Anyone know of a cheaper solution to this? I'd rather spend the chunk of change on a nicer stethoscope than blood titers. Any suggestions welcome.

Oh, and I never had chicken pox or was vaccinated for it so I'll have to get that too. My mom said my entire 2nd grade class got it but me. Go figure.

I was in a similar situation when I started nursing school. I could not locate my records and needed to get titers, hep shots, and an exam. Out of pocket the cost was over a thousand dollars. I did not have this kind of money so I did an internet search and located a phone number who directed me to clinics that provided for poor people and those without insurance. It was through Exeter/Portsmouth hospital in NH and this program traveled to various sites to give these people care. I took advantage of this program and saved myself a lot of money. I did have to travel an hour each way to get to this "traveling" clinic but it was well worth it. I would try calling hospitals in your area to see if they have such a service or call clinics. Do an internet search with the words health care without insurance and see what you can locate. There is help out there but you have to search to find it. I would jump on this as soon as possible because there may be a waiting period to get into some of these places.

The best place in Las Vegas to go for cheap blood titers is the Vaccine Center in Las Vegas. Go to http://www.vaccinecenter.com for more information. In fact, Vaccine center has a site called Bloodtiters.com that specializes in helping people like yourself find inexpensive blood titers in Las Vegas.
