Hello Everyone!
I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?
I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!
I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75!
Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!
I have also heard that there was a large group applying. I check here every day to see if someone has posted that they received something. It is making me insane!!!!
So, does anyone have any info on the school as far as things we'll have to do before getting to the first day? I've heard some say that we now can choose which hospitals we want to do clinicals at, which would be awesome! Has anyone else heard that? If that's the case, where would you choose?
Good questions. I've heard that it's not so much the place as the instructor that make the clinical worth while. I guess we will just have to see. My first instinct is University but some have said they got more experience at Slidell Memorial.
Let's just hope this becomes a dilemma in our near future. Good luck everyone!
NAC I (2nd semester) student here taking a break from studying.
Y'all will get all the info on what needs to be done before school starts in your acceptance package or during a seminar the school will hold soon after. But, off the top of my head I remember:So, does anyone have any info on the school as far as things we'll have to do before getting to the first day?
- Fingerprinting
- Background check
- LSBN (LA State Board of Nursing) questionaire for approval to attend nursing school (criminal record, drug use, etc.).
- TB test
- Physical Exam
- Immunizations/Titers (tetorifice, varicella, measles, mumps, rubella, vdrl)
- Meningitis vaccine, Hep B vaccine (these can be waivered)
- Flu shots (for Ochsner clinical sites)
- Health Care Provider CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Health Insurance
- Student Liability Insurance
However, it wouldn't do you any good to start on any of these things now! Some things need to be done within 6 months of class start (physical exam, I believe), and some things need to last you throughout the whole school year (TB test, CPR, Liability Insurance, etc.). So, if you got those things done now, for example, they wouldn't last you till the end of your second semester, and you would have to do them over. Adhere to the schedules recommended in the packet or advising session.
We've always been able to choose our hospital clinical sites. The caveat, though, is that the more popular sites fill up quickly. You gotta be on the ball and ready with 2nd and 3rd choices as soon as online registration opens. Some people are lucky/online registration ninjas and are able to get their 1st choice all the time. I haven't been, and have ended up with my 2nd and 3rd choices for Basics and NAC I respectively. Though, I have enjoyed each of my clinicals so far. So, I can't complain. Those on the Northshore, Slidell, or West Bank usually have no problems getting those sites if they want them because the most sought after sites in my experience tend to be the Metairie, Downtown, and Uptown areas.I've heard some say that we now can choose which hospitals we want to do clinicals at, which would be awesome!
Well, that's all I can think of for now. Back to studying. Yay!
Wow! We will definitely have a lot to do! Thanks for taking the time to answer, too, because I know you guys have a lot on your plate. Only a few more days left in the month, so we'll all find out soon! I am a nervous wreck, I think mostly because Change is difficult for anyone. If I get in, we'll be moving in w my parents, the kids will be at new schools, and it will all be my fault. No pressure, though, right? Lol. Good luck, Everyone!!! Keeping fingers crossed!
Don't think of it as "your fault". Your teaching your kids to deal with changes early in life. God knows, life's gears change quick and you're NEVER ready for it. The easier you can change the better! Life is much hard if you can't roll with the punches. We've all seen them or worked with them, the people who can't deal with changes, they make it difficult for everyone around them. It's not "your fault", it's an awesome adventure! Who know, they might meet their live long best friend at the new school! THINK POSITIVE!

I heard they extended the application deadline bc of the HESI test dates that fell after the deadline in December and applicants who had scheduled their exam on those dates were complaining. I would think they received more applications unfortunately. A classmate told me she called Charity and they said to expect letters at the end of the month no later than April 1st. I have calculated my profile score over and over and I don't know why bc either way I don't know the cutoff score.
