Charity SON Fall 2012

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hello Everyone!

I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?

I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!

I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75! :uhoh3:

Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!

Nolakay, I don't think we will know the cut-off until they go through everyone's application. I've heard in the past it has been a 55, and for my brother-in-law's class it was a 55 as well. When I brought my app packet last week, the head of admissions said they were sending the letters out in March instead of April. I just want to know already!!

nolakay I would just say that have good grades in your science and your math courses. I got into charity with a 78 on my TEAS score last semester. My gpa was about a 3.5 when I applied, and I believe my CSN was a bit higher. The admissions lady said they really focus on your science and math scores to determine how well you will do in nursing school. Go there talk to the admission head and make sure they know you, that's what I did. As far as cutoff goes for Spring 2012 it was a 55-60, but fall is always higher just because more people apply then, I think if you have a 70 or higher, you're going to be fine.

Best of luck to all of you, from a Charity '86 grad.

I hope someone can help me! I'm moving to the New Orleans area in the Spring and I'm interested in Delgado's LPN program. I know A & P aren't required for the LPN program..but I was wondering if you already have them, is there a time frame they have to be within...for instance for the RN program it has to be within 4 years. Mine are older than 4 years , so I was wondering if they would still give me the points for them. I'm finishing my Bachelors next Fall & I honestly don't feel like retaking A&P right now!I hope what I'm trying to ask is making sense! Thanks in advance for any feedback...

Abby8077, go to dcc.edu and click under locations (Charity SON). Then, go to propective students, then scroll down to Reources, and under that, click on PN/Technical Degree. It says that your A&Ps can't be more than 4 yrs old to the date that you would start. So, if you would start in Spring '13, then you would have had to taken the last one by Spring '09. For the RN program, it's 5 yrs. Acceptance is based on a profile score which is also on there under PN Bulletin. Hope this helped.

btw I made an 89.7% on my TEAS and had a 3.79 GPA and got accepted my first time applying.

Nikki,

I've been trying to find out from different Charity students on here how clinicals work. Do you pick where you want to do your clinicals, or do they just assign you to a certain hospital? And how often do you go to clinicals? I live in Covington and would like to do them at St. Tammany Hosp, but I don't know if I will have a choice. When I was in the hospital having my child, there were Charity students there, but maybe they just got lucky?? Thanks for any info!!

I have applied for the fall 2012 class. I did poor on my A/P 2 and ended the semester with a C. I am afraid I hurt my chances now, that C brought my GPA down so I went from a profile score of 70 to a 55. I really don't think that will be good enough to get in and I am so disappointed in myself.

You bid just like you would your other classes. The site will open at 8 am and everyone in the program chooses what hospital they want on a first come first serve basis. I believe you have 8 hospitals to choose from.

from what i understand they start at 70 and higher then work their way down until all spots are filled so it just depends on how many applicants apply and how many spots they will fill. If they need 200 spots filled and only 150 had scores of 70 or higher they go to 65 then to 60 so on until they reach 200.

gingervegas ,

you may still have a chance of getting in. you have to have faith. i also appiled for the fall semester. the hardest thing is waiting......good luck and hope to see you in the fall.

I've also applied for fall 2012 at CSN and I would like to say thanks to everyeone. This site has been very helpful and it's comforting to know that there are others out there waiting with me.

I've been hearing several different dates with regard to when we will be notified. Does anyone have any idea if it will be March or April?

Best of Luck to all of you who have applied.
