Charity SON Fall 2012

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hello Everyone!

I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?

I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!

I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75! :uhoh3:

Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!

From what I understood, you can use the ID you already have if you went to Delgado because in October they're going to change the IDs and everybody will have to take a new one. He said you can get a new ID I think the media office is in the 3rd floor. The ID is $10 but we are already paying for one with our tuition.

I'm really scared. My mind is all over the place. I'm locked into hurry up and wait. After Fridays orientation I dont know which way to move. Someone told me to calm down and do what they tell me to do. If they want me to get the ebooks, get ebooks. There will be things to stress over and this is not one.

They said the e-book is required. If you want to but paperback u can. They said some instructors will use the ebook to make notes or highlight areas in a chp u need to read. I think its going to take some time to figure out how to use the e-book and time is something I dont have enough of. Thats where my fustration kicks in. Also, I like to plan, plan, plan. Im upset bc I have to wait two weeks to fig out what our schedule is like on Bb.

Just relax shawn39. U cant do anything till u get that schedule and the books. U will be alright. Enjoy this break while you can!

I wish I could relax. I dont think of anything but nursing school and getting my kids ready for school.

Ok, so I was talking to another student tonight, and she spoke with her clinical instructor on the phone, and she told her that she wasn't using the ebook method so if she just wanted to buy the books online, she could. This person is not on my "Team" so I'm going to contact my instructor as well as see what she says. I'm just scared that if I don't get the ebooks that it will come back to haunt me at some point. Anyway, I'll let everyone know what she says. And I'm on Team 2 which is sections 306-309.

Hey there,

I have spoken with one of our instructors who told me that they are trying to transition to the e-books platform but this semester it is an option. They would like new students to purchase the packet, but returning students (anyone who is a restart from last semester), are not required to make this purchase because they already bought the hard copies. I am going to use the real text book method because I can not afford to do both, also I am concered about the learning curve for the computer version...also, for the drug reference book that has to be hard copy anyway so you can take it to clinicals for reference...

If Phi823 gets the same information as I did then I say it is pretty safe to go for the hard copies...either way you have to decide soon!

Do Not. I repeat, Do Not waste an ounce of worry on e-book navigation. Save the worrying for more important stuff like Care Plan writing, 1st week of school parking space finding, or whether to brown-bag it vs. dodging Claiborne traffic to get to Subway on those long class days. ;) You guys are smart enough to get into nursing school and computer-savvy enough to post on AllNurses so a little old e-book program doesn't warrant this much concern.

I wonder, though, how they plan on incorporating the e-books more into the lectures. Our Basics and Pharm lectures last fall were pretty much off of powerpoints that we could print off of Blackboard. That's why I stopped bringing my textbooks to school after the first week or so and really didn't need my e-book loaded laptop in class either. NAC I was pretty much the same way. I just printed out the powerpoint lectures and wrote notes on those during class. When studying at home, I'd invariably read from my hard-copy textbook rather than my laptop e-book. The only times I really used the e-books were on test days when I wanted to get in some last minute study and review, but didn't want to lug in my bulky and heavy textbook.

My take on it, but, since the curriculum and who knows what else is changed, y'alls mileage may vary.

The lectures with powerpoint sounds ideal to me. I would have my notes on the printed pages and have everything in one place. I hope they find away to incorporate powerpoint and put the slides on blackboard. I have made up my mind to get what they recommend and move on to something else. I will buy a hard copy of the drug book. How much is the nurse pack and does it have everything we need in it?

I never bought those ebook I thought that was a waste of money some ppl that bought it stop using it after the first month. The nurse PAC its always can be like from 60 to 80 that's the price range. I would worry about no ebook that's stuff it's easy to use I would worry about reading the recommend reading before school starts and practicing some skills checks off that they will do like wound care, giving shots I can't remember to much lol yea parking it's crazy the first week plan getting really early to school because finding parking it's a true headache

They told us that the eBooks were required for us to buy and the "bundle" is almost $500. So, if they r required for us (new in school) I wouldn't want to spend more money on buying hard copies if it's the same as eBooks. I would rather definitely have hard books but I refuse to spend more money on something that I already have but in different format, we already have to spend a lot of money for everything else :(. The only ppl the instructors were giving another option than the eBooks is for students who are repeating because they already have some of the books in hard copies from last semester.

For those of you that are already in the school, what shoes do u recommend us buying? Nurse shoes are like $120 and up :/ it says in the packet that we can use tennis shoes too but I would like to know from other's experience which shoes are better.

Has anybody gotten their financial aid cleared & processed? I applied for FAFSA like at the beginning of the year and it's not cleared yet and school is about to start. I'm freaking out because idk what's going on :(.
