Charity SON Acceptance ??s

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I've applied with Charity SON for the Spring 2010 class (as my back-up to the LSU CARE program). I wasn't able to get my application in until mid-Feb but I did beat the new Feb 27 cut off date.

1. It seems to me that I read that acceptance letters don't go out until June. Is that so?

2. Once the prereqs are out of the way, is acceptance based solely on the scoring of the applicant review form?

3. The sample applicant review form show 70 as a high score for someone w/out ACT scores (>5 yrs. from high school). Would an 80 or better be pretty much an assurance that I will get in or are there other factors?

Sorry about the message displayed twice...my phone was acting up. Okay, Math 120 is mathematics survey with applications and Math 128 is explorations in college algebra. Not sure which one to take. I'm trying to get a high GPA not make it worse, lol. By the way, the GPA that I get with the future classes I will take at Delgado, will they add UNO's GPA for the average of both or does the UNO GPA count separate?

You know, I haven't read anyone in here being rejected to charity. Maybe they aren't blogging? It seems like everyone gets in.

I have read some people having trouble getting a job. Are you concerned about that? Also, do you know of hospitals paying for your loans if you commit to working for them?

I took a course similar to MATH 120 and it was pretty easy, so I'd take that one. Don't know anything about the other course, so definitely go with 120. As far as GPA, they look at cumulative GPA and the GPA for the pre-reqs. So, if you do good in your pre-reqs you will have a high GPA for pre-reqs and it will bring the cumulative up as well.

Sometimes people don't get in on their 1st try, but they usually get in the 2nd time around. Just don't give up before you even try!!!!

I have not heard of people having problems getting a job. I'm not worrying about it because nurses are in such high demand everywhere that you can pretty much go anywhere and be able to find a job. As far as hospitals paying back your loans, I haven't really looked into that yet, but most places have a sign on bonus (the amount varies from hospital to hospital) if you agree to work there for a certain length of time. That could be a bad thing as you may wind up not liking that particular hospital.

Jenn06189, its difficult not to get stressed. Not getting accepted would be a huge failure for me. Especially since it would probably be b/c of my GPA. I read somewhere in this site that someone with a 4.0 GPA and 80 on her TEAS didn't get accepted! What?!! I have no hope! Well, there I go stressing..you're right...sure doesn't help.

Okay, thanks for the Math course info. I kind of figured the 120 would be easier.

Some people are saying that b/c of the economy, hospitals are not hiring as much. Well, by the time I graduate (hopefully), there might not be a problem.

So have you started charity yet? Is so, what's it like?

you do have hope. i didn't get an 80 on the TEAS, i don't remember my score off hand, but i think it was a 76 0r 74. Also, my GPA for my BS degree was like a 2.2 or something like that. I didn't have any sciences though and i took them at Delgado and my GPA at DCC is 3.0 and I got accepted.

Overall the class required for the program, if you just took those out of my transcripts my GPA would be like a 3.5, but i don't know how they look at it.

I think you will be ok.

If you look on the Charity website they changed the scoring card recently.

Kbuck504,

Thanks, that's what I've been telling myself...that I have hope. I start DCC this fall and I'm taking Math 120 and Biology 141/143 (lab).

I was told you have to at least finish A&P I before you can apply. So that means I won't be able to get in until fall 2011. I think that's correct.

Congratulations on getting accepted. So how is charity? Is it as hard as they say? I'm so excited to someday be there myself.

Okay, I don't think charity will be the problem. Delgado is the problem!!!

I have been there like 4 times allready and every time I go, they need another document. First, they needed the citizenship certificate (I became a naturalized US citizen). Apparently, they had no clue what that was and thought I was illegal!

Second, they needed a copy of UNO diploma AND!!! A signed letter stating that I graduated from UNO on xxxx date! What?! Isn't the diploma proof? Now, they need my high school diploma because they need to verify that I graduated from highschool. Huh?! So how in the heck do they think I graduated from college? Oh my God this is awful. I am going back Monday and I am taking every document I can think of that I have, even my car registration! Just in case they need that too!

i start in january. good luck. trust me it is hard dealing with them, delgado, even when i got a parking ticket it was a headache.

I have all of my paperwork ready for tomorrow. Hopefully, they don't ask me for something crazy!

On another note, how do you do to stay firm in your decision to become a nurse? Have you ever doubted yourself? I had thought about nursing a while back but it wasn't until my daughter was at childrens hospital that I made up my mind. The nurses at childrens had a big impact on me. Its hard to explain but they changed my way of thinking completely.

I turned to my mom for support and she said I should just become a parallegal instead.she says it pays well to work for an attorney and I don't have to do all the nasty work involved with being a nurse. She says she doubts I will succeed and I will just waste my time.

Those weren't the words I had hoped for... Especially from my mom. I sucks that my parents don't have any faith in me. When I graduated from highschool, I wanted to be a pediatrician but my dad said I wouldn't make it and it cost too much. So they convinced me to go into business. That was a big mistake. I have been so unhappy with my career choice. How do you stay sane and never lose the faith in yourself when those around you have already lost it?

Just a question....

I have read that some people get in with 4.0 GPA's and some don't. that gives us, the 2.0 GPA's a slim to none chance of getting in. I am starting this fall at Delgado. I will be taking math 120 or 128. Also, BIO 141/143, the two A&P courses and BIO 211. These classes are my chance to get a high GPA. Of course, will my 2.0 from UNO hurt the GPA I can get with the courses I will take at Delgado? I am already brushing up on my math and biology.

Also, how many students do they usually take every class? Oh I am so stressed out. The nursing academic advisor was no help either. She didn't seem to care about my interest in the program. I didn't feel like she helped me much. I also emailed a lady at charity about 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear from her.

They are allowing you to take BIO 141/143 and A&P in the same semester? Or am I reading this wrong?
