Charity SON Acceptance ??s

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I've applied with Charity SON for the Spring 2010 class (as my back-up to the LSU CARE program). I wasn't able to get my application in until mid-Feb but I did beat the new Feb 27 cut off date.

1. It seems to me that I read that acceptance letters don't go out until June. Is that so?

2. Once the prereqs are out of the way, is acceptance based solely on the scoring of the applicant review form?

3. The sample applicant review form show 70 as a high score for someone w/out ACT scores (>5 yrs. from high school). Would an 80 or better be pretty much an assurance that I will get in or are there other factors?

Its been 6 years since I graduated from UNO I have a lot of spider webs to dig out of my brain, but I trust that I just might

succeed.

since they have said there is a nurse shortage, do you think that its to our advantage? How many students do they take into the program?

Well I took the first step today by going to Delgado and speaking to the nursing academic advisor.

Of course it sucks that I can't get any pell grants to help me since I already have a college degree. Taking out loans is a scary thing but in the end it will be worth it right?

I have been giving this new career much thought. I have never wanted something as badly as I want to become an RN. I can't get over the fact that I waited till I am in my 30's to make this decision. By the time I finish my pre requisites at Delgado-city park and apply for nursing school, I will be around 35! I will be able to apply for fall 2011! That's seems ages away.

I am so discouraged now. I probably won't even get in anyway. Its a very competitive school to get into. They only take the best. That will really hurt if I apply and get turned down. Maybe I'd rather stay with the "what if I would have tried" than the "I didn't make it in cause I'm not smart enough".

I think I need to just forget about nursing school and live with the fact that I wasted my time at UNO getting a crappy business degree.

I do hope you guys do well though. Hope these 4 semesters go by fast and you get to walk on that stage an RN! Hopefully my two daughters fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse.

You sound like you are in a really dark place right now. If this is how you truly feel, perhaps you should talk with someone who can help you put things in perspective.

I just finished my 1st semester at Charity. When I applied, I received my acceptance letter about mid June. Don't stress. You've done everything that you can. Good luck!

Congrats on your first semester completed! I thought about it again last night, and I just can't give up that easy. I usually have been the person that gives up, but now that I have a husband and two beautiful little girls I have to not only do it for me, but for them too. My husband is doing a lot by supporting all of us while I go to school. I can't let him down. I guess the fact that I spent 4 days at childrens hospital with my 5 week old baby, made me realize that I haven't been in a career that is internally satisfying. I saw the care that was given to her and I want to give that same care to others.I especially would love to work at childrens hospital. Well, that is very in the far future but its my dream. Thanks for the support displayed. I love this site because you can spill out your emotions and there is always someone there to say something nice that will get you back on your feet. I have to stay focused. I'm going to have to put sticky notes all over my house to remind me of where I am going. Iy worked when I was at UNO.

Just a question....

I have read that some people get in with 4.0 GPA's and some don't. that gives us, the 2.0 GPA's a slim to none chance of getting in. I am starting this fall at Delgado. I will be taking math 120 or 128. Also, BIO 141/143, the two A&P courses and BIO 211. These classes are my chance to get a high GPA. Of course, will my 2.0 from UNO hurt the GPA I can get with the courses I will take at Delgado? I am already brushing up on my math and biology.

Also, how many students do they usually take every class? Oh I am so stressed out. The nursing academic advisor was no help either. She didn't seem to care about my interest in the program. I didn't feel like she helped me much. I also emailed a lady at charity about 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear from her.

It's not based solely on GPA, so yes some people with a 4.0 will get in and some won't. Don't stress. If you go to the Charity site, there should be info on what they base things on. Definitely try to bring your GPA up while taking the pre-reqs. In my experience, I took the A&P labs on the westbank and they were by far easier than at City Park.

I just finished my first semester and we started off with around 230 students and right before finals we were down to around 190. It's tough, but it's worth it! As far as Charity goes, the best thing to do is go in to speak to someone. It is next to near impossible to get in touch with them via email or phone. As far as the pre-nursing advisor, I never saw or met the person. I just took everything into my own hands, used the Charity site and went in a few times. Hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks for the info. Wow! 230 students is a lot. Is that just for the spring class or both classes combined? Where in the westbank did you take the A&P labs? Just in case I get lucky enough to make it in. I am afraid to even apply to the program. I have been thinking about the TEas test. How hard would you say that was? The GPA I get and my TEAS score are my only hope to getting in. Honestly, do you think I have an decent chance?

The 230 was just for the spring class. From what they say, that's pretty average. I took A&P labs at delgado on the westbank and they were extremely easy, just a ton of memorizing! I think that if you could bring your gpa up a little more while taking the pre-reqs your chances will be better to get in. I think your main concern should be the classes that you are currently going to take. Stressing over something that is a few semesters away will not help you now. The TEAS test was like the ACT/SAT test. I bought a study book, but never used it and got an 89.1% on my first try. If you're nervous about taking that, then get a study book and review until you feel comfortable enough to take it. I was done with A&P I lab and lecture before I took the TEAS and applied. They like to see you done with A&P I lab and lecture before they will consider you. Just relax and take it one class at a time! Good luck!

If classes are that big, I can't imagine how many people apply. I was wondering if you could help me decide on my math class. I have to take either Math 120 or 128. I want to know which one could be a little easier. I read the brief description on Math 120 and I'm not sure what the heck I read. Hopefully you can give me a clue on both. Okay, so before the end of the month, I want to buy the books I will use for the fall so that I can get a head start. I called charity today and asked about the profile score. In the samples they accept a person with a 70 and don't accept one with a 20. So does a 70 get you in? Her answer was no. She said it changes with every semester. I am a little confused about that. So do they just shuffle applications and pull them out of a hat? Do they go by names?

If you could tell me the course titles on the math classes I may be able to help you. I took my math classes at LSU when I got my 1st degree. It is true that the profile score changes from semester to semester. I can assure you that they do not shuffle the applications and pull them out of a hat. I believe they have a set # of seats each semester and just go down the list based on profile score. I don't know what the list looks like, but I know that they just don't randomly do things.
