  1. The math is basic...everything that is in the study guide for the math section is almost an exact replica of what is on the test. Reading is basically seeing if you understood what was in the passage. English is basically seeing if you know what punctuation mark belongs where and if a sentence is written correctly. Science is all over the place and there is no real way of studying for it. I would say that if your college takes a composite score, then you would want to do good in the other areas so it will offset the science section. That's what happened for me and my school takes a 70% for the TEAS, and I made a 82.4%.
  2. Yes...goodluck and please keep me informed. I will be coming into their school with nothing of theirs. LOL! I'm trying to find a school now as we speak that offers the HESI other than BRCC so I can take it early. Was that LSU in New Orleans?, because the one in Baton Rouge says they don't offer HESI. I also wonder how many students does BRCC take every year. I will be applying Jan.12 for their Fall 2011 class.
  3. BRCC told me that they will take scores from another school that offered HESI..
  4. So how would BRCC know what to do if you took the science portion and didnt get a 75% composite with it versus if you hadn't taken the Science, you would have? Also, have you taken any courses at BRCC? I will be transferring from another school with all of my pre req's without having taken any at BRCC and I heard that counts against you.
  5. where else can you take the hesi?
  6. no calculator
  7. The test wasn't so hard as it was nerve shaking. It was not extreme. My school requires a composite score of 70% and I made way above that, so a good score depends on what your college is asking as a minimum score. You can do it. No, math was pretty decent. The test can only pull so many questions from certain areas, so some things may be omitted or limited. The test I took definitely had many ratio /proportions and fractions and percentages. It had about 5 metric conversions, only 1 or 2 algebraic equations, about 3 mean/median and maybe 2 decimals. So basically on my test, out of 45 questions in math, about 22-30 were ratio/proportion and fractions. Science is broad. It is all over the place. But general science, scientific method, and chemistry was on there. Physical science was on there and anatomy/physiology only asked 1 or 2 questions. The ATI was very helpful. I just find that the science section does not greatly have an effect.
  8. The test may and may not cover some of those things. Especially the math and the science. It is better to know it all because it can cover it. Because the test can only have like 45 to this section or 30 to that, something may get omitted. A few that has taken the test will agree. You will be sitting there like, "Man, I thought it would have this on here, or more of this or less of this." So, something you study for may not even be on it. Just keep that in mind. I went in with some people who studied from 3 different sources and failed. But overall, if math is your weakness, study for all things listed as you never know what will be asked. You can do it! And I hope you do. We need more nurses. Good luck to you!
  9. yes, they were...I couldn't wait to get that test over.
  10. What school are you guys attending if I may ask? Also, to kuccellini, if you have no problem with reading and english, then yes, I would study math and science (well at least focus on it more). I would still brush up on english and reading because careless mistakes can be made. The reading is pretty elementary though. To TamiLee, normally it is not ever too early to take it. The scores are good forever at some colleges. There is no expiration for Delgado/Charity School of Nursing. And to SMC6787, there are word problems in the math section. There are also alot of ratio and proportion, graphs, charts, and metric conversions. Good luck to you all.
  11. Yes..the practice test online is a repeat, but it helps. Try to use different websites for the science part because it is such a broad area. Me, personally, I did not feel that the ATI study manual helped for the science section on the test. The science section is more of a either you know it or not type of deal. It would behoove you to study rocks, faults, and boundaries (divergent, subduction, and so forth). Know about the scientific methods and how it relates to what's being asked in the questions. Is your school taking the overall composite score or the scoring of each section?
  12. Good luck to all of you who has to take it. It is not the simplest thing, but I would not worry too much either.
  13. Good luck and let me know how everything turns out. You can do it! When do you take it?
  14. Thank you so much.
