Changing recruiter

Published

I am having some difficulties with my recruiter. This is my first travel assignment and she has called only once. I've been at this assignment for a month now. When I do call she never calls back. PLus other issues that I have had with her. I was wondering how do you go about asking for a new recruiter. Thanks for any advice to follow.

The supervisor of my recruiter stated that I should stay with my recruiter cause she has seniority and that she has a good reputation with her other travelers.

It sounds like the company, as well, is not responsive.

Her reputation with other travellers (and who knows what it REALLY is) and her seniority HAS NO BEARING whatsoever on your working relationship.

If she is such a wonderful, wonderful recruiter you would not be having the problems you are having.

And I would seriously consider switching companies after my assignment!

The supervisor of my recruiter stated that I should stay with my recruiter cause she has seniority and that she has a good reputation with her other travelers. Then she made a bunch of excuses why I haven't heard from her in 2 weeks. I stated again that I would like to change, and she again stated that she would have my recruiter call me today to work things out.

"It might be working out for my recruiter and she might be working well with her other travelers, but it is not working out for me. I have spoken to her already about this and we were not able to work it out. She is not a bad person, but she is just not the recruiter for me. I am far from home and insist on having a recruiter I feel comfortable with. Will you reassign me immediately or will I get my new recruiter by signing with another company?"

You do not have to apologize or negotiate it. Firm but polite should do it. If they won't work with you on this, will they support you if/when there is a big problem?

I am getting tired of their dances with wolves.

From now on I negotiate with hospitals DIRECTLY, hello.

I'm sure I will have this job I was ALREADY TOLD I HAD, but I don't like my recruiter, she sux. :angryfire

so sorry you and your recruiter aren't working out.

I'm also on my 1st travel assignment, been here 1 1/2 months and i've only talked to my recruiter once ( 2 days after I started working).

All is well( that can be) with the assignment. I did talk to the agency's licensure person regarding a texas license, but haven't felt like I need to talk to my recruiter that often.

my question is... How often are you suppose to be talking to your recruiter?

I have no idea how many times a recruiter is supposed to call. Talking to people it varies. All I can say is that since I called her superviser, she's called me everday to see how things are and to look for new positions.

The amount of communication you should have w/your Recruiter depends on the situation. I only call my Nurses if I have something to say (How did your first day/week go?, new bonus/benefits, extension, etc.). Touching base is great, but I don't want to come across as annoying.

On the other hand, if you are having issues or concerns, you should absolutely contact your Recruiter and they should respond with just ONE call from you.

Sunstreak - Unless you have the relationship with the hospital from the beginning (i.e. per diem) and they refer you to an agency (usually for billing purposes only), I would HIGHLY recommend AGAINST trying to negotiate with the hospital directly for anything related to compensation. The Agency is your employer and represents you to the hospital. Going around your Agency and attempting to negotiate a better deal directly with the hospital is a cardinal sin of Travel Nursing and will greatly effect your ability to work an assignment with that Agency or Hospital in the future.

Just curious, where are you in Texas? (what hospital, specialty area, and who is your travel company? Is there a lot of need for travelers in Texas (I hear differing comments)

I'm currently researching, before I start traveling; possibly in the spring...

Thanks!

I would not recommend direct negotiation with the facility on rates unless your going in as an IC.
