I know it is extremely common for women to change careers later on and choose nursing as their new career choice. But I honestly feel totally overwhelmed at the thought of how I will achieve this. I don't even have a date in site for when I could even apply to a program. I am a full-time graphic designer in the Dallas area. I make a decent salary but despise my career choice. All I want is to be able to start over and choose Nursing as my career. I have a few prereqs out of the way, and plan to take as many classes as I can before applying. But how in the world will I be able to go to nursing school and take care of financial obligations (home & auto loans, bills, raising a 2-year old with daycare expenses, etc - you get it).
I would love to attend El Centro in Dallas. If anyone has been or is in my same situation please share your insights with me. I guess I just need someone to say "Yes, it's possible".
Thanks - Bridget
Greetings! I started El Centro College in Jan. 2008. It is the first time for me at college and I am 36 yr. old single mother of an 18 yr old. I had to move me and my daughter in with my parents so that we could both be full time college students. I have applied for the ADN RN program at EC just this last week. It took me one year to get my pre-requ's and I took five classes during the summer. It can be done, however I know how lucky I am to have parents that are happy to help me out. I also receive financial aid. It is a tough road but just put one foot in front of the other and keep your eye on the prize. YOU CAN DO IT!! Good Luck!:wink2:

I guess 29 is the going back to nursing school age here :)
I am also 29, have a 20 month old son at home with me (who keeps me busy and insane). I work 2 part time jobs around my husband schedule so we don't have a daycare bill-YAY! I received an AS in Liberal Arts this month so that was well appreciated! I did that because I wasn't sure what I wanted or where I was going.
With that degree, I was able to knock out a few pre-req's...I just have the sciences left. Which I am busting out online this spring and summer. Hoping to get into the program this fall, but I have a feeling I will have to wait until Fall 2010, but so what, the future is bright
Good Luck to you...remember to stay on this site everyone is very supportive!!
