Changes to NCLEX-RN this February 2007 -- part of 3-year cycle?

I've heard that NCLEX-RN will be changed this February 2007 to update or change the content to better reflect current nursing practice. Apparently, the content of NCLEX-RN is changed or updated every three years. Has anyone heard of this?

My friend advised me that I take the test before it changes (i.e., by January) since I've written and failed it 3 times before in the past 2 years. That is, I have written it three times during this current three-year period before it changes. How important is it to take the test again during the same three-year cycle or period? What changes?

If you check the website of the nursing council, the changes are listed. They are minor and shouldn't affect whether you pass or fail. Not sure about the 3 year cycle thing, never heard that before.

When I attended a review class last year here in California, I still remember our reviewer told us that every three years, the board of nursing makes a new set of questions and these are stored in the so called questionbank(?), I can't remember the exact words he used but he urged us to take the NCLEX before they changes it and that is due by next year. Another advice he gave was to look for review materials that reflect the current testplan, meaning materials that was published between 2004-2006.

I also have written my NCLEX-RN thrice and passed the last one most recently. I just did a self-review the last time and used Saunders 3rd ed. which reflected the current test plan.

Yes that's true, and people in the RN program, can no longer take the LPN exam in 3rd semester anymore.

I don't really know the answer to your question specifically, but I can tell you that I did do a survey for them a couple of months after I took the NCLEX. It had all kinds of questions about how well the exam reflected my current practice now that I'm out in the "real world". So, based on that, I would think they use that survey information to make those types of changes as needed.

Eligibility to take the NCLEX (RN or PN) is still determined by the individual BON and not by the NCSBN.
