Hello everyone! I am currently an Industrial Design student at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. My senior project is dealing with nursing scrubs. I am in the research phase and any information would be greatly appreciated. I am looking into designing new scrubs for floor nurses. I chose floor nurses because I feel they are going from room to room with numerous untensils including pens, highlighters, scissors, tape phone/pager...etc. With all of this 'stuff' it is hard to stay organized.
Do you feel there is a better design for the current scrubs? What do you feel are issues I should take into consideration?
I feel I should look into affordability, comfort, and organization as my main focus? Does this sound right to you?
SO IF YOU COULD DESIGN YOUR OWN SCRUBS, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?
Thank you for any feedback! I look forward to hearing from you!

The best scrubs I ever got we hospital issued male/unisex scrubs!!!!!
They're thin, light-weight, quick to dry, drawstring pant, not tight on my hips (I'm 5'7", 130#, size 6-8 in pants, yet many drawstring pants are tight on my hips if they fit everywhere else...err). We need more low-rise drawstring, I refuse to where my pants up to my chest, then I have floods... so now the crotch hangs lower, but atleast I'm comfy. I thought about trying to make my own scrub bottoms... atleast they'd fit the way I want them to.
As for scrub tops... I love the fun patterns w/ animals or cartoons, solids are nice at times. think comfort, soft fabric, wash n' go (no ironing)!!!! You need to have 2 boxy pockets in the front for all out stuff, the stethascope holder would be nice.
That's about it for me... thanks for listening:p
There's company here that has scrubs tops that have a collar..really sharp looking.
Avoid a tapered leg look (I don't think it's flattering to anyone).
My favourite scrubs are really quite soft, but require ironing.
Teflon....for all those big GI bleeds, etc.....
Darts on tops, I have a figure, and I wouldn't mind showing it a bit (no..I'm not trying to do the 'sexy nurse' thing)
Pants that stay up.....I would love if I could have a pair of bottoms that tie at the side, but also had an elastic....
I'd like a matching vest with extra pockets on the inside. The hip pack (won't use the fan** word as it's a no no in OZ :)
that would be shaped more like a Greek bota so it would tuck sort of at the waist and under the arm.
Pocket corners that won't tear if caught on a desk drawer.
As for the nurse who carries a medic bag, I actually had an Easter basket from the dollar store with my extra gloves, unopened saline, alcohol pads, a few masks, a red bag, and other stuff. It was fluorescent yellow with a sparkly white handle. Hard to mistake for someone elses.
I wonder if anyone would like skirts? I worked with several ladies whose church frowned on pants but they wore the colorful tunics with a long skirt. Would anyone be interested in designing a skirt with some USEFUL features for them?
Im not a burse yet but i have certainly done my share of looking around. A top that has a shape around the waste would be nice for those days when you want to feel like a woman instead of a potato bag. I disagree with the poster above that says they need o stop making low rise pants. How low rise are talking about. A decent low rise would be ok but i guess extra low rise would be innapropriate. If the nurse wears her PROPER size, her tatoo or butt wont show. Its when they start going a size too small thta the pants start to ride down. I am just one of those girls that cant stand wearing an elastic or waist band on my belly button. I HATE IT!!!!! Even when low rise werent fashionable i would always pull my pants down because i didnt like the way it felt. Ok thats my take on it.
