change of BON

Hi, i'm a nurse from the Philippines. I applied for NCLEX to CA BON and upon reading the posts here, they say that it takes ages for them to look at my papers. Can I apply also to a different state like New Mexico for example?

You can apply to New Mexico, since they don't require CGFNS, however, you will have to list that you have applied for a California license, then will have to answer why you don't have it.....It also comes down to where you want to work. If California, you are going to be waiting quite a while, they have a backlog lasting about 8 months just for the immigration part, not the time for Visa Screen process if you need a visa, etc. You are looking at probably about 18 months, if you haven't completed anything else. If you give me your specifics as to what you have completed, then I can help you go from there. If nothing has been started, and you are wishing to work at a California hospital, I would just sit tight.

thanks for the reply, I am planning to work in California. But given the length of time that I have to wait. I would probably risk it and apply to New Mexico. Thanks again.:o

The license part isn't your problem, where you are going to occur the wait is with the papers being processed in Immigration by which ever hospital or agency that is sponsoring you. If you are going to work only in California, I personally wouldn't go for a license in NM also, as the time frame is with Immigration not the length of time it takes BON to respond.

Have you completed your required English exams yet?

Have you applied for the Visa Screen? If you haven't, I definitely would not rush to jump from California. Another thing to take into account, things aren't going to get done any quicker as you will still need to apply to them for

endorsement for a California license, so you won't be saving any time............

I already have passed the IELTS last January and right now i'm just waiting for cali to respond. Until then, i will be waiting here unless i do something about it.

Have you submitted for Visa Screen yet? If not, I highly recommend that you get started with that and you can do it before you take your NCLEX exam. That process can take six months if you have never submitted anything to them. So if you get that submitted now, it will save you a few months. Your biggest hold-up still is going to be getting the paperwork processed by which ever hospital that hires you to work in California.

I have not yet filed for Visa Screen, I have to be honest with you. I really dont know how it is being done. I dont have an agency to do it for me or any potential employer yet. I will try to visit the site that you have posted. Thank you very much. How about the I-140 something, I have read about here but is it a different paperwork altogether? And who files for it. Thank you very much for your assistance.

If you look at the beginning of the listings for "International Nurses" you will see a sticky for the steps to follow.

I would go ahead and get the paperwork started for the Visa Screen. You can download the form from the website. The company that offers you a position will have to submit a petition on your behalf for the green card. Once that is done, then you will take care of the the other paperwork.

California is taking about 6 months for you to receive your letter authorizing you to be able to take NCLEX. It is taking about 8 months for the paperwork to be processed for your petition, then you still ahve to go thru the routime steps with the US Embassy, which can add on a few months.

Let me know if you have any more questions. And I would definitely recommend sending your paperwork by courier service.

Hi Suzanne: I'm a foreign nurse, living in South America. I applyied for CGFNS CP, passed the examination and TOEFL and TWE, still did't take TSE. I'm planning to take IELTS in June, because it includes the oral part and my TOEFL and TWE are valid only until October 2004. Yet I know I have to apply for Visascreen; but I' doubting about applying before CGFNS isssues my Certificate.This is because during all the process they lost my documents, and missed up my application papers more than once, and I'm afraid that if I apply for Visascreen they won't be able to maintain them all together. You know what I mean, don't you. They are very informal and disorganized, despite all the "formality" the require form applicants. It should be a logic and simple process, as ist is seen from the outside. Anyway this is the only way to get to our goal, isn't it?

Besides after all that mess, that cost me to fail the examination once, I'm pretty dissappointed. Do you know how much time does it takes for the visascreen process to last if I have all the documents and examinations required? Do I need some Institution or Hospital to sponsor me before I apply?
