Well, I have decided to try and apply for the nursing program at North Hennepin Community College after this fall's semester (hoping to get into fall 2006 class). I will have completed all my pre-reqs with the exception of A&P 2. With the competition being keen, I was wondering what my chances were on getting in not having completed A&P 2 prior to applying. I have maintained a GPA of 4.0 up to this point in all my pre-reqs. Thanks for any input!
a&pI and II are difficult no doubt, but doable. I managed to get A's in both (barely) but had a lot of difficult life losses at the same time which made it more stessful. You need to be organized and willing to put in a lot of time (especially the memorization for lab). The tests are hard, no way around it. You need to be able to not just memorize information, but understand it really well to do well on the tests. I think it also depends on who you have for an instructor. they are all difficulty, but some more than others.
Why not check out MCTC? No waiting lists there, and it's the most rigorous ADN program in the state!
Do you know on average how many people apply to the program and how many are accepted?
North Hennepin doesn't have a waiting list and Anoka-Ramsey really doesn't have a waiting list either, but both are pretty hard to get into.
Has anyone taken Micro at NHCC during the summer? I'm thinking of registering, but I'm not sure if it'll be too intense while I'm working FT. If so, what grades did you guys get?:redpinkhe Cari
I took Micro last summer at NHCC. It was the night class. I think it was Tues/Thursday evenings. It was pretty fast paced, but manageable. I got an A in the class (barely). Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Matt!
Thanks for the response. I'm debating between NHCC and Inver Hills for taking the course. How many hours a week did you spend reading/studying? Did you work full-time while taking it? Were you taking any other courses while taking Micro? How to you compare it to other pre-reqs (Phys, Chem, etc.) Sorry for all the questions!! Thanks again for your help.:wink2:

Cari,
I was working full time while taking the class. I don't remember how many hours a week I spent studying, just kind of kept it up through out the week. At NHCC, I took English the first part of the summer, Micro (overlapped 2 weeks of English). My English class was fully online. I took Biology in 1996, so don't remember how hard or easy it was. I thought Micro was hard compared to Chem, A&P 1 and 2.

I think that Micro was easier than both A&P's. I took it during the Fall 08 and it wasn't too bad. I took A&P1 last summer and it was hard. Mainly for the fact that it was soooo much info squeezed into 8 weeks! But I am mainly a B student. Would have gotten an A in Micro, but I completely bombed one of my tests. If you have Dr. Rich in the summer, it wouldn't be too bad. I didn't work during school, but I had a one year old and a newborn to take care of... It wasn't too bad. I would suggest a summer course especially if it is a matter of only having one course left to apply for the program. I applied for the Fall 09 start, but don't think I will get in. There were 484 applicants this year for only 130 spots!
