what is my chance of getting an interview?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I applied to UMDNJ and University of Maryland CRNA program and waiting for an interview. I am a bit anxious of my chances. Please be a judge...here are my stats.

BSN at UMDNJ with 3.58

MSN (ongoing) at UMDNJ with 3.7

CCRN

have been a nurse for 4 years; with two years telemetry experience @ community hospital in NJ; 1 year cardio-vascular stepdown at a busy 900 bed hospital; 1 year ICU at prestegious NYC hospital (med/surg); and now ICU float at a busy (900 bed), high acquity hospital.

I know it is based on competition...

You got accepted somewhere else? congrat and enjoy.

I got an interview as well..they emailed it on friday

I got into Buffalo...but I also hope to get an interview at Kaiser. It's surreal...

Rejection from UMB for me :crying2:. Not even an interview . Oh well...

Could use some help. I am finishing up my ADN to BSN degree with completion slated for May 31st, 2011. I currently have a 3.5 GPA. I have been an RN for 2 years this December working 13 months in the Coronary Care Unit and transferred to Surgical ICU where I have been for the last 9 months. I am our units education liaison and I am also on the hospital's Critical Care Council and General Council. Critical Care Council's duty is to review keystone data, revise standing orders, etc. The General Council also reviews keystone and voices change and revisions for hospital operations. I have been working on attaining my CCRN, but have put that on the back burner to begin studying for the GRE. The reason I am studying for the GRE now is to have time to take it again if I need to improve my score. Michigan State University accept applications starting in January 2011 thru May 2011 and I want to apply. Does my work history and "extracurricular" areas look appealing enough to get in assuming I score well on the GRE? If I don't get in to MSU's program, I would have to wait another full year to apply to any school including MSU. The other four universities except applications in the Fall 2011, but I would have to bust my butt to complete a couple prerequisites.

love-d-or- sorry to hear you didn't get an interview from UMB. What other schools are you waiting to hear from? I hope you get into UMDNJ.

Kevccurn - you look really good on paper, especially with your education and leadership skills. Apply and see what happens. My only question is why you are only applying to 1 school instead of spreading it out, that way, if you don't get into MSU, you can go to another school instead of waiting for a whole year.

Thanks Amiro, but the lack of an interview offer is really scaring me. I applied to UMDNJ and Kaiser too, and I am currently looking at more schools to apply to. If I got an interview or waitlisted, I would actually feel better... but the lack of an interview!!!! I don't have a 4.0 and have not been a nurse for 10years, but I have somewhat of a strong resume. Oh well, I guess I just have to keep strong and not lose hope. I hope we both get into Kaiser :)

We don't hear from kaiser until January...hopefully we both get an interview coz after that it's like a 50/50 chance of getting in. UMDNJ also gives invites for interviews in Jan.

You can be enrolled in your last prerequisite course (for the BSN) if you have all the others done, and take your GRE in mid January- then apply by Feb 1, 2011 for UM-Flint to start Aug 2011. It might be tight but it's an option to consider. :)
