What are your thoughts about Chamberlain College of Nursing FNP program?

Congratulations, was it difficult for you to find employment after graduating from Chamberlain??

@wlagurre

Im curious about this as well. Im worried there wont be enough lecturing material, as there is only assigned readings and lessons currently. There are no videos or prerecorded lectures. Any one eles have an issue with this? I really like chamberlain, and want to continue there, but need to feel like im being TAUGHT things verses just teaching myself ( I do realize that in online learning that more self-teaching is expected, but I thought Id get more than just a textbook!)

Getting ready to start in Nov for FNP program with Chamberlain. Any advice and tips please??

Hi, I should be starting the program in February, can someone send me a syllabus of the first semester. Thanks [email protected]

Hi Schmacy,

Did you have any issues with job placement? Or anyone in your graduating class?

Thanks!

Tiffany

Hello all!! I was wondering if anyone who is in the program could give me some information about the discussion boards. I have been told that its hard to get a hold of the teachers. Thanks in advance!!

Hello all!! I was wondering if anyone who is in the program could give me some information about the discussion boards. I have been told that its hard to get a hold of the teachers. Thanks in advance!!

Im currently in Patho (half way through!!) and I have had no problem communicating with my instructors, advisors, or practicum coordinator. The school has surpassed my expectations thus far. I currently work for the VA and there is no limitations here with employment. Hope this helps :)

I am currently in the RN to BSN program at Chamberlain. I am finding the classes very manageable. I am hoping someone can give me an idea as to the work load for the MSN program. Right now, In the BSN program there is a paper/written assignment due every other week. These assignments are no more than 8 pages. What can I expect for the MSN program?

Currently, in the FNP program. Are there any Facebook groups for FNP? Thanks

How did Patho go? I'm currently in my core classes, also from VA, but traveling and working on the west coast. I'm eager to get to studying or at least see a syllabus or study guide from Patho or Pharm. Do you have these available that you could possibly send to me? I'd like to use them as leisure reading and start early, in that, I'm discouraged by people saying that traveling will be hard when the advanced classes start. My email is [email protected] Thanks!

kpnurse16, how was the program overall? I am in the process of transferring out of Simmons and am looking at a program that is compatible with working 12 hour shifts, and that would prepare me well in the FNP field. What was the quality of the classes and the professors? Do you feel the program prepared you well to sit for the NP exam?

Thank You!

I will graduate from the program in December of this year. I am currently in my second of the 5 practicum courses. There are pros and cons with Chamberlain. 1. The FNP portion of the program has been very disorganized. With that, I mean you will find that your practicum coordinator will say one thing, your instructor will say another, and your preceptor will have been told something completely different. I spend a lot of time redoing parts of assignments because the rubric is different from the assignment instructions.

2. You are responsible for finding your own clinical sites. You have to have a well rounded experience, meaning an adequate amount of each population. The adult portion is easy to manage. Peds and womens care are often difficult to find. You must show that you have seen peds of all ages as well. An equal amount of newborn, toddler, adolescent, etc. This can be difficult.

3. The program changes every term. Initially I was told I had to travel to St. Charles, IL for Immersion weekend, which I did and can say that it was a wonderful experience, but now I am told we have to return during the capstone course NR661 for an intensive review (Hollier). I will make a positive out of this and gain the valuable knowledge for board, but the cost of traveling, missing work, ect. was not something I planned for.

4. They tell you that you will find it difficult to work full-time during the FNP portion of the program. They are not lying!! the course load is difficult and the practicum hours add up fast. Chamberlain is different from many other programs in that you only get credit for the hours or time you spend in patient care. meaning, you do not get 8 hours practicum time for being in the office 8 hours. If you see 8 patients and you spend 45 minutes each, you only get credit for 6 hours. then you have to sit down at home and log each patient experience, which is grueling. They changed the logging system last term, so the new system is cumbersome and missing places to enter data. We had to go back and add in some things to our logs which added more time.

7. I do absolutely feel prepared. I am currently seeing approximately 12-18 patients independently in practicum. I chart, complete procedures, order labs, e prescribe, etc. The program has given me a great foundation for clinical. BUT I found my site on my own. The school gives you ZERO help in that.
