Chamberlain NP program
Many will say its not a good school since its "for profit". While im sure there are more reputable schools, I have had no problems with them. Everyone at the school is very helpful, from student finance to your advisor. I also got a large discount due to being a daisy award winner, so that factored into my decision. Im in pharm now. I think with all online schools, the more you put into it, the more you get out. You can def "skate by" and pass this program (at least the non clinical portion) without much difficulty if your a decent student. I have a friend going to a state school and the work load seems comparable. Just keep in mind, you will NOT receive lecture material. It is all reading, and retaining. I find my OWN sources, youtube videos, numerous review books, articles on American Family Physician etc. to get the best out of this education. The teachers are more like, class moderators. Im in pharm now, and my teacher is actually a pharmacist, and has done the most "teaching" so far. I enjoy the weekly discussion, and case studies, and feel like I learn a lot from those. Good luck with your choice.

New NP, take Integrated pain management job or keep looking?
If it were me, and I were in your shoes.. I would easily EASILY take that job. Fresh start, nothing holding you back... I would love to live in WA and I've heard specialties are the way to go. Im just a student though. Good luck with your choice.

I still have a year left of my program, but want to start reading at least a chapter a night to prepare. I may also by accompanying CDs if they have them. Also, if you guys have any favorite books for references while your working, thatd be great. Looking to get Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopenia (got decent reviews on amazon). thanks all :)

For APRNs: What's your lifestyle like?
@travelNP APRN when you say outpatient do you mean primary care? Im wondering how work I should expect to take home with me once I graduate, and hopefully start working as a FNP at a private practice

Claim paid out as RN almost an NP
This is the type of thing that makes me VERY nervous about becoming a provider. When I think about the circumstances that could go wrong, or become the "perfect storm"... Does anyone have any advice, in general, to hopefully avoid this type of thing? Or is that too broad of a question as "it could happen to any one".

"smart enough" for DNP program?
Many schools you could potentially attend will have an online portion.. with some or all of the course work online. Just something to consider.

Chamberlain FNP Program Questions
Im currently in Chamberlains FNP program, I started last Jan. I thought about doubling up on classes, and Im actually glad I haven't. Taking one class at time allows me to focus more on the papers and discussions. You'd have to double up quite a bit for it to make a significant difference in time. You can only double up on core classes, not FNP classes. Each class is about 2 months long so I think theres a potential to shave 6 months off, if you did it every time. However, I wouldn't recommend doing it for adv. research methods as Ive had to put quite a bit of effort and time into that class. If you do double up, Id suggest doing so with nursing informatics, in my opinion that class was by far the easiest.

Have you ever met someone who regretted getting their NP?
Hi there Cola89, Im back in school for FNP. Im just curious why your only alternative to NP is to get out of healthcare entirely? Have you thought about other specialties besides the floor/ER? I work as a floor nurse now, and when Im done with school I will have been on the floor for 7years. I cant wait for the change. Ive also thought about just changing where Im working, instead of going back to school. I just don't think that would satisfy me. Im nervous about the new role, but excited. All the NPs in my area (that I know personally) love being a NP exponentially more than floor nursing.

Chamberlain FNP program
@wlagurre Im curious about this as well. Im worried there wont be enough lecturing material, as there is only assigned readings and lessons currently. There are no videos or prerecorded lectures. Any one eles have an issue with this? I really like chamberlain, and want to continue there, but need to feel like im being TAUGHT things verses just teaching myself ( I do realize that in online learning that more self-teaching is expected, but I thought Id get more than just a textbook!)

FNP Graduate from Chamberlain College of Nursing Dec 2015
Hi! Im sorry if you've answered this question already, I read back and could not find it.. Do the classes in the actual FNP portion of the program provide any lecture material? pre-recorded or videos? Right now Im in advanced research methods, I don't feel like Im learning a lot..Not only is it just "read this chapter then discuss" My first assignment I feel as though there are tons of errors (rubric missing information the teacher says must be in the assignment, sample provided provides wrong info) So im just feeling lost. Do you feel like you learned a great deal in the FNP part? Did you learn mainly from reading chapters, or was there more interactive ways of learning?I guess Im not great at just reading a chapter and try and spit it back out. Thanks so much in advance for your response!

Do I want to become a FNP?

Do I want to become a FNP?
Id also like to hear other peoples reasoning for FNP. Honestly, I was ride or die floor nursing for the first 4 years of being at the bedside. One day I woke up, came to work, and just had a realization I cant take the disrespect and poor working conditions, for the next 30+ years. In one day my entire view changed. I knew I wanted to work directly with patients, so moving to a "behind the scenes" job wasn't for me. I'm now enrolled in an FNP program, but still hope I made the right choice. I was one of those people who knew from a very early age I wanted to be a nurse. That's why I think it took me a while to realize that maybe my dreams were changing. Anyway, I would like to hear more reasoning, the biggest advantages or disadvantages, of FNP. I honestly can say the ONLY thing I will miss from bedside is the 12 hr shifts (and maybe a couple coworkers). Love me 3 days a week!

Chamberlain FNP Program February 2016 acceptance
@nightnurse08.. Question, are you working full time? Do you think this is doable even with doubling classes? Also, do you know if the professors support Macs? Seems like everyone has macs now but just want to know if I need to buy word. (Although unthinking here is a way to save your documents as word doc on a Mac even without word program )
