Chamberlain FNP program

What are your thoughts about Chamberlain College of Nursing FNP program?

I intentionally chose to attend a BSN to DNP program that was not a Chamberlain, Walden, Phoenix type program. I am still completing my BSN to DNP online but through a well respected school. One of my mentors stated the other day that these programs are being cracked down on. Also, keep in mind every state may not accept graduates from that program. Excelsior has had many issues in different states. I am sure someone else will sing the school's praises though.

I'm thinking about joining Chamberlains FNP program. I'm just scared of advanced patho and pharm. I wish I had the syllabus of the class along with the name of the textbook so I can get a good idea of the course before actually taking it.

Other than cost, I've only heard great things about Chamberlains programs.

What are your thoughts about Chamberlain College of Nursing FNP program?

I am thinking of looking into this program. I don't know anything about it yet. I am in FL. The main concern I have is about where our clinicals will be. I am thinking we would probably have to find our own? Anyone else know for sure?

Also wondering where the campus site is where the FNP students are supposed to go for immersion weekend for the Advanced Physical Assessment course/clinical skills is..

The immersion weekend is in the Addison, Illinois campus. Not sure about Clinicals.

I guess that would be doable if one had to attend for only one weekend. Does anyone know how much experience as an RN you need to be admitted to the MSN FNP program? I don't see anything listed about required experience etc.

You do have to find your own sites. I have been talking to them they encourage the FNP students to find one site and do all 5 of the practicums at that site. I have some concerns due to lake of getting enough experience and trying to find someone who will make that long of a commitment which would be 10 months total. I am having a phone call with the practicum adviser just to get more information and to start looking now. I have a year before I start my practicum.

I received my ADN to BSN from Chamberlain College of Nursing. I was very happy with the program... here is how I would rate it.

10/10 - convenience (including applying, access to classrooms and contact with teachers)

7/10 - quality (i have to be honest, i just wanted to get a BSN behind my name at this point)

7/10 - Cost (they counted many of my credits from my previous Bachelor's and looking at other online programs, this was a very reasonable program)

They give a discount to Chamberlain Alumni of $300/class, which turns out to be about a $4500 savings, so before all of the additional costs, the program is around $24k for me.

I will be starting their FNP program in the fall. Completely online except the immersion weekend (like the other post stated, in addison IL). Practicums are found by you in your home town, so you definitely need to have contacts. With the FNP program, there are 5 classes of practicums which are different topics (pediatric, womens health, etc). You can use an MD or NP for the practicum. I'm not sure which program Scrubing77 is referring to, but you can do all 5 practicums at different sites, there is just more work involved with getting background checks, etc done for each site.

September '13 is the first cohort for the FNP program.

The advisors are readily available by email or phone with questions and if you just want to inquire, go to the chamberlain website and click on the 'chat' button.

Well i have to tell you first before you talk and bring my name in to the subject I talk to the head person who is in charger of the practicums. Who I talk today. She was very nice but was up front about this is a new program and that they ADVICE the students to try and get all their practicum at one site. I did bring up my concerns about doing what hey ADVICE. As they put it the need to switch around could cause the student to delayed in finishing the program. She did say it was not a requirement and that it was a choice that would need to be work around. As she put it the first set of students would be starting their practicums in May. I am already in the program and I have one more class before i start the the track specific class. I am currently in the advice research class and the next class is the infromatics class after that is the population class. The program is new and they are working out the kinks. I have looked in to this program and also have talked with them for a while today. She was nice and all but the program is still working it all out. I finished my BSN completion program last september and started the master classes this past Nov. So before you bring my name into the subject you might want to think before you type.

Hi, I am also wondering about the experience requirement. Would a new BSN grad be able to enter into the MSN FNP program? Or would I have to do another Master's program first and wait for more experience? Thanks

I don't believe that there is a minimal requirements for experience. The web site for the requirements is here Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-FNP Chamberlain College . It says nothing about requirements about experience.
