I am researching online MSN programs and have narrowed it down to 2-3 and I was wandering if anyone has gone through the Chamberlain College online program for FNP. If so any advice would be helpful. Did you like the program? If not Why? Would you recommend an online program for a MSN?
So am I understanding correctly that a paper is not necessarliy die every week? Are there required visits to the campus? Which I won't mind.
You can get an overview of the curriculum here: Family Nurse Practitioner Program Curriculum | Chamberlain
NR509 is the class that requires a visit to a campus. The classes beyond 510 are clinicals coordinated in your area.
Hi there,I am in the program also, I am finishing my 2nd session, this is my first to double informatics and theory. Next session I will be taking research and policy, the final 2 core courses. Informatics is pretty stratightforward, follow the rubric and you will be fine, and there are typically 3 papers due in each class. Im passing with a 99%. There is only 1 required campus visit called immersion weekend when you take health assessment.
We may be in informatics together right now. I have been taking one class at a time. I will start policy for November term. How is it going for you doubling up on classes?
It actually comes out to just under 2 years. The curriculum is paper heavy for the first 7 courses, but I also personally know other colleagues attending traditional brick and mortar programs and they say the same thing, classes are paper heavy (when asking about certain classes). It's important to remember that not every school's curriculum is set up like Chamberlain's, a lot of other schools incorporate patho and pharm and health assessment into pre reqs, chamberlain does not and they have you focus on each class at a time. Something to keep in mind.
I am currently taking two classes per term in Chamberlain's FNP program... it's very challenging, but it's been doable for me. I have three young children and work 20-30 hours per week. Most of the classes have two discussion posts due each week, and you will also have to respond to other students' posts throughout the week as well. There is also a LOT of reading and writing papers. There haven't been any exams... a couple of quizzes here and there, but mostly just writing papers. I'm taking two classes at a time until I get to Advanced Pathophysiology (which will be the next term for me), and then I will be taking one class at a time for the rest of the program. Good luck! :)
Hi SPJJ Mommy! My ultimate goal is to become an NP. I'm currently in the BSN program at Chamberlain now, but I'm wondering do you think I should just for straight for my NP degree or should I work as a nurse for a few years before applying? Also, how is the program going for you thus far? Have you started clinicals yet? If so, has it been hard to find preceptors?
SPJJ Mommy do you still have your Course Syllabus for Patho, Pharm, and Assessment? If so can you please email me a copy to [email protected] Thanks
I am currently in the FNP program at Chamberlain and I love it. I chose Chamberlain because I wanted 100% online and the cost was much cheaper than the local college choices. ( I live in NH). Chamberlain does assist you in finding a preceptor. I am in that process now, to start at my first site in May. They had me make a list of all the clinics or sites that may take students and send it to them. They then do the calling for the student. They do not want the student doing cold calling. I looked through the phone book and made a list. I landed my first site right away. I still have a few more to find, but I have until next June to find them.
I think the classes at Chamberlain are challenging, but doable. I work full time and I take one class at a time. I started in Sept of 13 and should graduate in March of 16. I am currently in the advanced patho and find it challenging but I am in week 6 and have a 98.8 for a grade! They want to see that you are participating and that your posts are thorough and that you understand the subject. I am really enjoying it and may continue on for my DNP...good luck to anyone attending!
