I am researching online MSN programs and have narrowed it down to 2-3 and I was wandering if anyone has gone through the Chamberlain College online program for FNP. If so any advice would be helpful. Did you like the program? If not Why? Would you recommend an online program for a MSN?
sherri12,
I am about to start the program and have a few questions. Did you have to go to campus the last course to do a intense review for the exam or was it all on-line? Do they provide you with the Amelie Hollier's book or do you have to purchase your own. I have been looking purchasing some review books but didn't want to if they provide them throughout the course. Also did you have to take any proctored exams throughout the course.
Thanks for the info!

To answer your questions:
1. You now have to go to Illinois twice: once in week 7 of your Advanced Physical Assessment course. You must pass your in-person skills exam or you cannot start your clinicals. The 2nd visit is for a live review (not sure who the presenter is as this was a brand new change in January) before you sit for boards. Both visits to Illinois are held at the Q-Center. If you do not attend the live review, you have to write an 80 page research paper.
2. They don't provide any books, per se. However the Leik review is an assigned text book when you reach the FNP-track courses.
3. They just implemented a proctored exam system which started in March. You use the Respondus lock-down browser, which prevents you from using any other applications on your computer while you take the exam. They also now require you to be on camera with audio enabled during any quiz or exam.
I am actually in the process of transferring schools. While I had a great experience with my RN-to-BSN program at this school, there's been so much negative change since I started the FNP program in July. The final straw for me was when they blindly implemented a new databank for quiz questions but didn't thorough vet it and it cause everyone to fail the mid-term exam because only a handful of questions on the exam were in the materials they gave us to study. They "miraculously" waited to make an adjustment in Week 6, when it was past the date to receive a refund for the class. I am highly disappointed with this type of money-making tactic. I feel like I wasted a significant amount of time and money by starting this program. I am now awaiting transfer to another school. I would highly advise attending elsewhere.
Hello ImcollierRn
I am currently enrolled in FNP program and i just finished that class and it was probably one of the hardest classes!. My friend just graduated from this school and she said it was not bad at all. Most instructors are helpful you might have one or two that are strict on grading especially APA style. Let me know if any more questions!

I will be staring in Oct. I had to have a preapproved site prior to being excepted. No the Coordinator was not helpful. You are really on your own and if you don't have contacts or are new to an area it is difficult.
