Suzanne,
Do you know if students enrolled in an RN program in Indiana or Texas can challenge the NCLEX-PN? If they can, in what semester of the RN program would that be possible?
I am really jus t trying to satisfy my curiosity.

You actually do not challenge the exam, if you are in nursing school. (The "challenge" was for militiary people who were corpsmen in the service, in some states, they can challenge the exam, though they never attended nursing school but got on the job training while in the service.
Now to your question, you normally need to complete the first year of a two year program, or the third year of a four year program, but that is only if the state permits it, as well as if the school had its training set up so that the nurse can do it. If training is accpeted, you still need to go thru the application process, take the NCLEX-PN exam, and prepare special for it. The material on that exam is quite different from what is on the RN exam.
In the past, there were acutally programs that were set up this way, especially for the two year programs, you completed the first year, did the LPN exam, then went on for the second year of school and wrote the RN exam afterwards.
It is specific to state, as well as school. Hope that this helps.:)
