Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Exam 2013

Hi all,

Looking to connect with those who have taken the CNE exam under the 2012-2013 handbook.

Today I took the exam and was extremely nervous. All of my exam prep activities were giving me varying feedback. I would achieve anywhere from a 63%-85% on practice exams unfortunately I failed. I didn't totally bomb it. I failed by 1 question. But a failure is a failure and I need to move on and continue to study so I can pass the next time.

Does anyone have some sound advice to provide? I have both the 1st and 2nd Ed CNE STudy guides by Price-Witt .... I also performed the SAE. And surprisingly those results did not correlate with my performance areas on the actual exam.

Any feedback on the archived Nurse Tim webinar or the CNe prep sessions offered at various locations advertised by the NLN?

I feel like I am at a stand still .... Like I'm all studied out. Another testing issue I know I experienced was I could narrow it down to 2 answers and then got stuck. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you all so much in advance for your responses.

I studied for the CNE for about 3 weeks total. I started by reading as much of Teaching in Nursing by Billings as I could, then used the CNE Exam Manual. I made several sets of notecards on Quizlet.com based on information I found in Billings and this manual. If you would like to use them, they are open to the public for use. Just search "CNE Prep" on quizlet.com. There are 5 sets total. I took the SAE one day before my exam and made additional quizlet cards on information I wasn't already familiar with. I would highly recommend having that information memorized and learned well enough that you could explain it to a high schooler. I would also recommend finding YouTube videos to help you really understand the learning theories, especially if you are a visual learner.

I rented the CNE Exam manual for $14 and downloaded it to my Kindle app on my iPad because I wasn't willing to invest in the hard copy. Well worth the money to rent. Studying this book alone might be adequate for some learners, but it's important to realize that most of the questions you are going to be asked on the CNE are higher level application and analysis questions. This book can give you a good working knowledge of some of the information, but may not be adequate for everyone. The practice quizzes and exam in this book are nothing like the actual exam because they are mostly lower level questions.

I passed the CNE on my first attempt. It is worth the energy and investment. Good luck, everyone!

So Billings, the CNE exam manual, and making notecards helped you pass the exam?

Any other resources help with practice questions? Or would knowing the CNE content very well (from Billings & the CNE exam manual) be sufficient to pass?

Thanks so much for sharing!

I used your CNE quizlet page and there were so helpful! I passed!!!!!

Thanks Toni, I also used the cards and passed the first time!

I am so totally done with NLN/CNE, etc. I've been to 3 review courses, bought and read a few of the recommended books, purchased and used 2 SAE exams. Took the test last Sept after taking first review course (actually NLN Faculty Intensive that instructor said I'd pass CNE after it)... and failed by 10 points. (never failed a certification exam in my life - I'm a good test taker).

So this time I did all the other things (SAE, read the books and took practice end of chapter, etc ad nauseum) and I STILL failed the test by 10 points.

So same result not studying and then after studying.

I've spent THOUSANDS of my own hard earned dollars and spent the last 2 years trying to pass this exam and I am totally discouraged by NLN.

I can't help but think there is something terribly wrong with the exam that I can't pass after all of this.

I guess the universe doesn't have it in store for me to get this certification.

It makes me mad because as faculty, we're taught that it's our role to give students the material they need to succeed... NLN./ Review Courses, etc do not do as they teach.

Have you attempted to take the test again?

Does anyone have access the quizlet? Thank you
