Hi all,
Looking to connect with those who have taken the CNE exam under the 2012-2013 handbook.
Today I took the exam and was extremely nervous. All of my exam prep activities were giving me varying feedback. I would achieve anywhere from a 63%-85% on practice exams unfortunately I failed. I didn't totally bomb it. I failed by 1 question. But a failure is a failure and I need to move on and continue to study so I can pass the next time.
Does anyone have some sound advice to provide? I have both the 1st and 2nd Ed CNE STudy guides by Price-Witt .... I also performed the SAE. And surprisingly those results did not correlate with my performance areas on the actual exam.
Any feedback on the archived Nurse Tim webinar or the CNe prep sessions offered at various locations advertised by the NLN?
I feel like I am at a stand still .... Like I'm all studied out. Another testing issue I know I experienced was I could narrow it down to 2 answers and then got stuck. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thank you all so much in advance for your responses.
bump ....

I was supposed to take my exam tomorrow, but do to emergency construction the testing center is closed and I had to reschedule. I will be testing mid July. I have the same resources as you, with similar assessment scores. Since I will likely test before you re-test I will check back and see if I have any tangible study tips to offer as I move through my study process.
Best of luck to you!

I'm an Instructor for a major NCLEX prep company. When you're down to two choices, you evaluate the outcome of each answer. Does it make sense? Either way, your answer needs to be the "best" answer because there could be more than one correct answer.

I took the exam today and failed by 7. I don't feel I could have prepared any differently. Like you, I also feel like I am at a standstill. Thinking about a prep course.
I took and passed the exam this week. My margin for passing was not very high, but I did pass. As others have said, as I sat for the test I felt I was as prepared as I was going to be. While there was no topic on the exam that was new or that I had not reviewed, I felt some topics that were emphasized in review materials and practice tests were not emphasized on the exam.
I used the Certified Nurse Educator Review Manual(2nd edition) as well as Teaching in Nursing: A guide for Faculty by Diane Billings. I would recommend both books, but in hindsight, using the Billings book as a primary reference might have been a better choice to increase my confidence while taking the exam.
Good luck to those studying and retaking the exam.

I took the exam yesterday and didn't pass either. I failed by 9. I used the 2nd edition of the Certified Nurse Educator Review Manual and Billings' Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty. Of the two, the Billings book would be the better one as mentioned previously. I also watched an archived CNE Prep webinar on Nurse Tim's site by Billings. I really didn't find the webinar helpful at all. After losing $375 I don't plan to retake; one and done as far as I am concerned. I too felt I couldn't have prepared any differently.

I, too, am looking to obtain my certification. Does anyone have any specific suggestions on how to study? What did you do to prepare or what would you do differently to study? Thanks!!
Thanks for the tip on Nurse Tim, was considering that route. I'm not sure if I will try again.

I passed without difficulty. I had already read the majority of books on the list, most several times. I also used the Wittmann-Price book, but found my previous readings to be more helpful. I did not attend a review.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'm fired up now to take it! Fortunately many of the books that were listed in their readings I own from my MSN program. I'm going to start studying and take the test next quarter.

I'm getting ready to take the test in the next few months. I went to a prep class at the N-OADN conference in November, and got a lot out of it.
Can I get a show of hands from those that were not successful what is your MS in? Nursing education or something else? I had several ed classes in my program, that I hope will prepare me for the CNE exam.
Wish me luck.
