I received my letter yesterday that I am in for the Fall '09 or Spring '10 class!
I am taking the TEAS on the 17th. They do a randomized lottery and haven't revealed the order of our places (which decide the class). It was the last of 5 ADN community college programs I've applied to and got it on the first chance drawing. Weird, but I'll take it! It would be nice to get picked in the Golden West or Saddleback (my A&P Cs killed me for a straight GPA shot there) lotteries because they are a LOT closer to me with much nicer clinical sites, but I will take what I can get since it's only a means to the end!
Anyone else hear from Cerritos?
(posted here since this seems to be the place to celebrate and query acceptances versus the state forum)
I called them today at 4:30 and the secretary said they sent out letters on Tuesday May 25th. She asked for my last and first name and said I was #126. She said I probably won't get into the program in Fall, and I'm looking at alternate status for Spring '11. I'm sort of confused here because 175 were chosen to take the TEAS (1st lottery)out of the 426 that applied. 50 chosen for Fall and 50 for Spring= 100. If I'm 126 out of 175 shouldn't that still give me a chance to be an alternate for Fall, considering if 26 people don't accept because they're going to another school instead?
It would be pretty insane for half of the chosen students to decline entry! I was #76 and would have had to have that many decline for me to make the Fall '09 class. Instead there were only about 5 picked from no-shows/declines. In the Spring '10, somewhere between 10 and 15 were chosen at orientation, then as far as I know only one alternate was called the night before we started lectures. I think your chances of getting in for Spring '11 are way better than Fall. Fall is a favored term to start because it's "shorter" time to finish with only one summer interruption.
She said most likely I will get in for spring but thats still a long time to wait! I really want to start working towards my nursing degree now!Can anyone help clarify or know of anything that can help me relieve my anxiety?
Make sure you apply to other schools just in case. I applied three times each at Golden West and Saddleback before getting in here.
I want to ask the secretary at cerritos more questions, but it always seems like they're trying to get you off the phone as quickly as possible, not really calming your nerves.
Keep in mind that she is the secretary for the entire health occupations program so she isn't just fielding questions from nursing students, but also PT aides, MAs, Pharm Techs, etc. She's told us many times she doesn't have a crystal ball to predict what "might happen" so what you know is her best guess.
I'm interested in applying for the program on March 2011. I'm Option A but from another community college. I've completed all the pre-reqs and since CNA is not a requirement, I think I'm good to go. I have around a 3.4 cum gpa and all B's in anat, physio and micro. What are the chances of me getting in for Fall 2011? Is it possible to get in the program that quick?

It's a lottery so your chances are as good as anyone's!
Hello, Apgar! i have a question for u !!
i guess you must know what i should expect since you're already in the program. so, i need your help!
i got a letter yesterday, it says im #13 on the alternate list for fall semester.
let's say.. only 5 were picked for fall... then, am i going to be #8 alternate for spring 2011?
im also confused if they decide who's gonna get in for fall and spring both at the first orientation, or
do i have to wait until spring orientation to see if i get picked?
i saw your post saying you were #76.. does it mean your were #26 on
the alternate list? (76-50)
thanks reading , Apgar !! 'll wait for your reply ~
They didn't put numbers on our letters last year, we just knew if we asked about them. We found out our ranking when we checked in for orientation. I was considered an alternate for the Fall '09 term but ended up in Spring based on my rank. So unless 13 people bail between now and the first day of class, you should consider yourself a better candidate for the Spring class.
What I think happens is they pull all the lottery winners randomly and ordered them from # to whatever as they came out of the 'hat'. So the first 50, if they accept, are in the Fall. Then the next 50 are likely to be the Spring class but they will pull from the front of that line to be alternates for Fall. So, I was #76 in all. 1-50 were Fall. 51-100 were Spring, but I was #26 on that batch. Get it? I think that is the only way to explain it... but take it for FWIW because I'm NOT a college representative and not privy to what happens behind the scenes.
They will have another orientation for the Spring semester in November so you will have to wait AGAIN for notification letters. That gives everyone a month to get a chance to get their background checks, physicals and immunizations done. The semester starts Jan. 10, 2011.
thanks for the prompt reply !!!
so, if what you said is true.... im the 13th person in the spring2011 program for now, and only fall students(1-50)are decided so far... right? i hope it means that im in the spring for sure...... please.please.......
nothing is sure for now, but i feel so much better now, because i thought
people for fall and spring were already chosen and i was #113 in whole!
your're very caring person, Apgar...im sure you'll be a great nurse; nursing needs people like you !
i sincerely thank to you, Apgar!
good luck on you finals :redpinkhe
