CEP Feb. Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi all! Anyone else applying for the CEP program through Maricopa Community College during this upcoming application cycle? I'm applying for the GCC/NAU program and was curious if anyone else is applying this semester as well. I'm hoping I make the cutoff - the program is becoming really popular really fast!

I got a letter of admittance last month but website still says complete

I just need CHM130 to apply to the RN program and get into the pool.... then I can hammer away at the co-reqs BIO 202, BIO 205, HCR 240, and PSY 240. I can take these online through Rio Salado, the 8 week courses so I figured out I can be done by Dec this year if I take two at a time (staggered by 2 weeks).

Is anyone doing the CEP program while doing the evening nursing classes at Gateway? When are the NAU classes...how many days/times per week?

My other option is to start the evening RN program and then do the ASU pathway BSN she said... those classes are all online apparently.

The CEP is a program you can't do both. The wait list for the evening RN program without the CEP is more than 2 years of a wait. It would be better for you to get the classes done and do the CEP program.

Oh I realize that the CEP is a program in itself and that you take BSN level classes through NAU... my question is more about when can you do the nursing block classes at Gateway? Only during the day or can you choose evening? Or are you saying the NAU CEP people take separate nursing block classes from other Gateway students? Sorry for all the questions... with all the options it seems so confusing!

Hey AZGal! We've all pretty much been in your shoes, what a mess huh? There's a couple things that stuck out to me.

We're all technically waiting to start our CEP program, so we really don't have a whole lot of specifics. More than happy to help, though!

I didn't need a college chemistry class. I used my high school transcripts to meet that requirement. Maybe you can see if that will work for you. Also, if you have a Bachelors (and Master's?) I find it hard to believe that you need all these extra requirements. BIO 202 and 205 are required to be placed on the Maricopa waiting list, but HCR and PSY are for the CEP program. With the CEP program, depending on which college, you need an AGEC degree OR the other requirements, not both. You have probably already met that with all your previous schooling.

As far as scheduling for the CEP classes, I know NAU has 2 or 3 in person classes. All the rest are online. Having worked for UoP, I know all of their classes are online as well. I think the only way they can get the CEP program to run smoothly is by offering all the Bachelor’s level classes mostly online, because clinical scheduling can get kinda messy. NAU has one class during the first summer semester that meets for 4 mondays (or 4 tuesdays if you choose) so it's not even really a full in person class.

My nursing counselor, who I still have to deal with, has cost me at least 2 years in this whole nursing process. If she had had her facts straight or had attempted to be helpful at all, I'd be almost graduated with my BSN by now. I whole heartedly recommend you get second opinions, or ask around in the AZ forums here.

With the nursing blocks, you can do whatever there is room for. Being accepted into the CEP program means you are gauranteed to start the Maricopa Nursing Program, regardless of where you on on the waiting list. As long as there are open spots for the program you want (Nights, weekends, fast track, etc) at the college you want, you should be able to get it.

Everyone in the CEP program is part of CEP, obviously, but it breaks down from there. There's ASU, NAU and UoP. On top of that, there's each of the Maricopa CCs: GCC, Gateway, Mesa, etc. And then there are individual programs within those CCs, like I mentioned above. I'll probably never meet any of the other students in this thread because we all end up scattered everywhere. We are not seperated out from the traditional nursing students though. Some cohorts are all CEP students, some only have a few, just depends on who was accepted into the CEP program for that semester for that college.

I fear I probably just confused you more.

I know it is a little confusing Gateway does have a traditional day program, and evening program and and weekend program starting in the Fall. I don't know if that changes at all for future semesters. PinkUnicorn said it best. I would say to get your pre-reqs and co-reqs done and apply to the CEP because waiting on the wait list could take some time. Asking questions are good it is the only way you won't end up missing something important or not having all the classes you need.

So Gateway still has not sent out there Orientation packets, but I was looking at GCC packet is this true that we can wear white or black nursing shoes? In the past it has always been white only.

I just looked back over the CGCC info and I actually don't see anything about shoes, unless I missed it. The dress code sheet is basically that we need the Caribbean Blue scrubs with the college embroidered on it. The other colleges must have different requirements, I'm guessing?

Thank you both for your help :) It did clear it up some for me and lessened the confusion.

I do meet the gen ed requirements of course since I have a B.S. already, but still have some classes to take especially for NAU.

I HAVE: BIO 201, MAT182 (Trig), BIO 156, PSY 340 I think it was (Statistics), and PSY 101.

I NEED: CHM 130 (do not have high school Chem), BIO 202, BIO 205, then the NAU ones... FON, HCN, and Developmental Psych.

I am enrolling in CHM through Rio starts in a few weeks and is an 8 week class... starting BIO 202 2 weeks after CHM starts so they are slightly staggered. Then will continue like that until done so around December. The GWCC advisor said I can apply to the nursing program after I finish CHM 130 so then I am in the nursing pool, and finish up the others while waiting. Would they next CEP acceptance be in Feb of next year then for Summer 2015 start?

You have it under control azgal81. Yes the Feb application session is for the Summer 2015 start. Not sure if you have your Hesi A2 exam or Fingerprint clearance card done for the nursing waiting pool, but just keep in mind the fingerprint card takes up to 12 weeks to get back so do it before the beginning of the year.

Hmm I didn't get any info about the dress code at all in my packet from MCC. Just info about ordering the nurse pack.

And I didn't get anything about a nurse pack. Just a stethoscope of choice, a handheld smart device and all the required books. I was wondering about that. Maybe we get more info once we submit our required documents? Hopefully anyway.

Speaking of documents, am I the only one who needs a bunch of immunizations?
