I'm curious if anyone has used Workforce Central Florida's WIA program to help pay tuition for their LPN. One part I don't understand is that they make you apply for 10 jobs as a part of the application process? I'm doing it because I want to try to get into the program but still.. I don't get it.. I already have a part-time job and I'm going to be starting school full-time in January so I really do not want another job, lol.

I don't know about the WIA in FL, but I used it in LA when I was going to school. They too had the job hunt requirement, but my advisor did tell me that as hard as the course was and going full time, that waived my requirement to have to job hunt. I also turned in my grades every term so they could see how I was progressing, and she said that it helped alot as well. Good luck to you!!
Ah, that's good. I think I will call them up tomorrow and ask them about it. My financial aid advisor really didn't tell me much about the program.. just gave me a flier with the URL on it and told me to check it out. :/ I hope I can at least get a little tuition help out of it.

Im using WIA to pay for my LPN program, TPABAY. Yes, it's too show that you could not get a job in ur original field. Basically, everything we do on WIA will be used for statisical purposes later. When you complete your program. WIA will stay in contact with you 12 or 24 months afterward. I think WIA is worth it.
If you goto private school, $7k, or goto public $5k. I'm going to public.. I'm not paying nobody nothing.
Good luck in school! Come on the board and share your experience.. I start in March..

I used WIA to pay for my LPN program and it was really easy and nice. It is worth the time spent doing what they ask to qualify. Once you qualify it is pretty easy after that. There are 3 people in my class that used WIA and we never had any problems.

WIA is needs based. You need to show you are facing some barrier to employment to qualify. The fact you are employed may not qualify you for the program. Best to check with WIA directly

I used the WIA grant as well. Paid for everything--tuition, uniforms, gas cards, review course, as well as NCLEX. Didn't have the job hunting requirement, though. Nice to have your education paid for and get a good-paying job out of the deal!

Do you have any dependents? That would be key to qualification if you are working. My income (from a part time min. wage job) was considered excessive because I am single and have no dependents. Good luck!

Would WIA pay student's tutition if they have a part-time job (25hrs a week) and a dependant (9 month old).. ? Tried calling but couldn't get a straight answer.

I used WIA to pay for my ill-fated .NET Diploma. In north FL the amount is $4k and you can qualify for other bennies such as gas cards, food stamps, cell phone. The $4k is for tuition, books, supplies, and test prep. Cap and gown are your problem. Yes, while your getting job retraining you do not have go job hunting.
This was 1 year ago so some things may have changed.
Good luck.
