Cedars-Sinai New Grad Summer 2013

U.S.A. California

Just thought it would be helpful to post a new thread for the upcoming new grad program starting this summer. I've seen the thread for the program last year and wanted to see if anyone was one of the first 250 who applied for it this year. I applied for cohort #1 and got a phone interview last week and the gentleman said that I'd receive an e-mail within 1-2 weeks. I've also heard of people getting rejection emails as well without a phone interview. Anyone have additional info they'd like to share? Good luck to all us new grads out there!

I also got the invitation to the open house. any feedback from past interviews would be of great help.

@stephiem -- I'm so sorry to hear that. It's always such a letdown when yet another rejection letter arrives. Keep on applying and prepping answers for interview questions. There's a reason we all made it through nursing school and passed the NCLEX -- you can do it!!

Hi everyone! I am new to allnurses.com, but I have been keeping up with the thread.

Congrats SandyMickey!! I hope to be joining you soon! I also received the invitation to the open house on Wednesday. I am very excited, but also nervous as it is hard to know what to expect. Like jk and zombmurse, I am wondering if you have any tips on how to prepare for the interview. It seemed like everyone had the same questions last time, mostly clinical related.

Alwaysshere13 - what else did they ask you? Trying to anticipate certain topics but sounds like the questions don't seem to have any rhyme or reason ... Kinda just threw you a bunch of random topics. Any feedback or advice?

RN't_U_Sweet - hey there :) looks we are in the same position. Nervous and anxious for Wednesday. Putting my portfolio together and plan on going over labs, common meds and disease processes tomorrow. Other than that im not sure how else to prepare or what to expect .... What time is your interview?

For those of you who went to the open house interviews for Cohort 1, how firm are they about having original copies of letters of rec?

I emailed several clinical professors and the administrative staff at my university to ask about getting originals. I was told that the electronic copy already has the signature and all they would do for me is print it out. So, I feel kind of stuck. :nailbiting: I guess I can show them the email from the professor and admin if they ask why there is no ink signature on the copies. Anyone else have a similar situation?

Also, what type of attire was expected for the open house? Did you wear a suit, or just nice slacks and a dress shirt? I had an interview at Stanford and was told to just wear something clean and neat looking, and the interviewers were dressed really simply, no frills. Any tips?

I'm at 3:10. How about you jk?

I am doing the same. Reviewing common meds and conditions. I'm also trying to think about scenarios.

I'm not 100% sure how strict they are about the originals, but if that's the only thing you have, then put that in. better to have something than nothing. if you're worried about giving an original, from experience if you don't make it, they mail you back your packet.

as for attire, def wear a suit. I think this shows your professional and it gives yourself a different image. As for the interviewers themselves, it does not matter what they wear bc they don't need the job, it's all about you!

Good luck :)

Thanks mellowyellow2,

I am not really concerned about not getting the originals back, it's more the fact that I've never gotten any originals to begin with. The way my school does it, they have the professors email the letter to admin staff who electronically puts it, as well as an electronic signature on university letterhead in a PDF document and emails it to the student. So every letter I have is only in electronic form, no signed hard copies.

I hope they accept that!

Hey everyone....sorry I've been MIA. The open house is one on one and starts off with getting to know you stuff and then clinical questions about things like Lasix and blood sugar etc. It's basic knowledge that doesn't really need reviewing....it's more general stuff. Just be yourself because they are mainly looking to see if you're a good fit with their culture.....the clinical skills can be taught and will come with time. Good luck everyone!

Anyone have any updates for cohort 1? Still anxious because nothing is official yet :/

i got accepted to cohort 1 too and Im looking at places around cedars sinai so I can just walk to the hospital lol.
