Cedars Sinai New Grad Spring 2022 Cohort

Updated:   Published

Hello everybody. My name is Bianca, and I'm a nurse residing in NYC. I started this thread for anybody who applied for the Spring 2022 New Graduate cohort and wanted to connect. I did not know this program even existed until yesterday when the recruiter recommended it to me after being ineligible for another position. With that being said, I wish everybody the best of luck and hope all of us get picked for our respective units ? (My 1st choice is Main OR and my Second choice is General Medicine, I think 8S- General Surgical)

My status is under consideration ans was last updated March 3.

Thank you!! I just Have a few questions before you leave…how was the interview and the starting pay if you don’t mind sharing. I would assume it’s a lot (or better than what I’m making)

Good luck! The interview was great. I had two people interviewing me: an ANM and a nurse educator. I felt like they asked a lot of standard questions, but also just wanted to get a feel for my personality. I think as long as you show enthusiasm, that will leave a good impression. They start new grads out at kind of an average rate for L.A. (or just slightly above average), but I think  once you hit the one year mark, and move from CNi to CNii, they give you a $10/hr pay raise.

I had 3 people interview me and it would’ve been 4 but it was her day off. I think 2 were charge nurses and one was the ADN of the advanced heart failure unit. They mostly asked questions about why I want to work there and about my experience. I like to think that they were satisfied with my responses. At the end they asked my preference for day or night shift and I’m hoping that’s a good sign ?. What’s typical CA pay? Because I’m from NYC and the range for new grads or nurses with little experience is $45-$55.

OK, that lets me know they’re still deliberating. What units did you apply for if you don’t mind me asking?

That sounds like a good sign! Those rates sound comparable to L.A. I'll DM you my rate and what I know about other places.

Hi everyone, new here! I was fortunate enough to get an interview for the OR - super excited about it, but quite nervous. @skyblue2121, I saw that you previously got accepted for the Winter Cohort and are in the OR. Not allowed to send PMs as a new user, but I would love to know whether I should be prepared for unit-specific questions? Would love to hear more about your interview exp.

Congratulations! I will see if I can sent you a message. Otherwise, just know what the role of an RN circulator is. Cedars doesn't really focus too much on scrubbing for their OR nurses. You will scrub for 2 weeks once you are placed on a floor, but mainly they use surgical techs for that. So focus on the role of a RN circulator. You will most likely be interviewed by one of the peri-op educators (or both) and then one of the managers on on of the OR floor (Cedars has 6 OR units/floors, plus a separate cystoscopy unit and some other out patient services). Everyone is super nice and chill. I would also suggest knowing why you want to be an OR nurse (what got you interested in it in the first place) and also think about where you want to be in 5 years (which is a typical interview question anywhere, but definitely good to know for OR, and particularly at Cedars, since "scrubbing in" is probably not something you would be doing much of on your unit, so hopefully that is not your main goal. They would like to see that you are into working with the specialty that you find (like cardiac, spine/neuro, transplant, etc.) and hopefully leadership and/or education, as there are many opportunities for that. Good luck!

@skyblue2121 Unfortunately, these new restrictions aren't allowing me to reply to your PM because I need 'at least 15 quality posts before starting a private conversation'. Such a bummer LOL!

I'm so grateful for the message. You have been more than helpful! Hope we can cross paths in the future if I get the job :')

Hey guys, just a small update. So I emailed the recruiter today after it almost being a week after my interview and hearing nothing. I was told he spoke with the unit manager today and for me to “please stay tuned.” I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad sign so im still playing the waiting game. Good luck to everybody who has upcoming interviews.

So this is going to be my last update, unfortunately I was not selected for the Advanced Heart Failure. I am giving the chance to interview for the neurology/stroke unit but I know that’s not something that I want to do so I’m not going to take it. With that being said, I wish everybody the best of luck in their careers and maybe one day we will cross paths soon.

I am sorry to hear that, but I am sure you will wind up in the right place for you. Don't let not getting it affect your confidence for other interviews. Sometimes it is just a timing thing.
