Hi everyone! I know it's early and this cohort's application won't be available until August 8th (license needed before then, interviews September 14th and 15th), but in case anyone is like me graduating in May and taking the NCLEX in June who aren't eligible for the earlier application rounds, I thought it would be nice to start a thread for us.
I was reading the new grad residency page and it looks like we will all be assigned to med/surg for a full year and can only apply for specialty units at the end of the one year mark after completing the residency program. Reading through past threads for other cohorts, this seems to be a different arrangement than others have experienced, possibly due to COVID.
I personally don't love that structure but Cedars Sinai really is an amazing place and opportunity. What do y'all think? Are you applying elsewhere also?

Apartment hunting is pretty hard since I am not familiar with the environment and rent prices are high. Hoping to live with people who are also going to join the cohort! Is anyone going to make a FB group for this new cohort?
Hey! Do you know if anyone ended up making a FB for this cohort?

I got my background check report, but from my past experiences, you typically won't get your drug screen results. If your urine was too diluted or something then you would be notified to redo the screen but if you don't hear anything back that typically means everything is OK.

Hi! I was looking at the past threads and saw that you interviewed for neurosurgery! I have mine coming up and I'm pretty nervous. Long shot since yours was a year ago, but if you had anything to share about the unit culture or specific interview tips, I'd love to hear it.

Hey, I saw this message in an email from allnurses and thought id respond bc I'm actually the only new grad left from our cohort on 8n neurosurgery. The other two nurses left at the very beginning for other jobs. One of them said they didn't like neuro patients that much so don't let them leaving deter you. Honestly the interview was pretty easy, I don't remember a ton of it bc I was so nervous, but management is pretty nice. They might ask why you want to work neuro, and then a couple clinical questions like I remember they asked me what I would be monitoring for after giving lasix which I thought was random. They might ask you about safety and falls and pressure injuries are a big thing on our unit (like a concern I mean bc people are immobile and confused). so just think of a couple things you can do to prevent those and they'll be so happy. The unit is super cool, everyone's really nice and helpful. I haven't met one person who's made me feel bad for asking them for help. There's two halves of the unit 8ne and 8nw. They're nice on both sides. I'm pretty sure management just decides which side you'll work on mostly based on their staffing needs. I'm not sure about other floors in comparison bc I've only floated once and it was just to 8nw from 8ne but our unit is higher acuity than most med/surg units, so it gets pretty busy even at night, but everyone's so helpful it makes it better. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for this! Your response really reassured me ? I wasn't too keen on pursuing neuro until I found myself in a lot of neuro units during my rotations so I'm happy to be interviewing with 8NE/NW. I hope your new grad journey has been treating you well!
