They will assign you to a unit where you will be staying while in the new grad program, I ended up staying in my unit after the program ended. Mostly everyone is helpful and nice to me...I guess like anyother work place, I tried to get to know everyone and I kept a positive attitude in accepting criticsms. You really cannot please everyone, there will always be those that will not like you...but as a new nurse that lack experience, find those nurses that are willing to help and stay away from those that don't want to deal with you hehe... In general, I am having fun and continue to be blessed.

Good luck!!!! hope you get in the program :)

Thanks for the PM with lots of information that helped me alot.Unfortunately, Im not yet allowed to send PM. I didnt have my phone interview either, not knowing why. But i was able to chat with one of the recruiter and she asked me if my gpa is above 3.5, i simply said yes. But then i realized that my gpa was not 3.5. ( i got confused because my grades were in Philippine grading system where 1 being the highest and 5 being the lowest, completely opposite from here. I got the open house invitation. But then still nervous whats gonna happen because of my GPA:( THANK YOU SO MUCH BEBE1ME. You're a great help:) Any more encouragement and tips pls?

Hi BEBE1MEE!

I was hoping I could get some info on how the second phase interview was. This is my first interview since I graduated so I'm a nervous wreck right now! I'm trying to prepare myself as best as I can. You could PM me if you'd like. Your help is GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks!

Thanks for the info BEBE1MEE! Can you go through what the open house is like? How long you spent with the managers? How many questions they ask? What types of questions (situational, medication, behavioral etc)? Thank you!!

MY GPA BOTHERS ME:(

Hi BEBE1MEE,

I was wondering if you can give me some suggestions or information on how to prepare myself for the second interview at Cedar Sinai. I have my interview on the 19th and am very nervous about it. If you can give me any tips on what I can do to make myself a good candidate, that would be wonderful. Thank you so much for your help in advance and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

HI All,

Regarding the open house, they will or maybe they already sent you a list of documents you need to place in a portfolio. I came to an auditorium where all the new grad candidates waited. We submitted our portfolio in a pile and was led in. We sat in the middle of the auditorium and waited for our name to be called. Once your name is called, you'll be escorted to an interviewer (CN IV or dept. manager).

I think I spent about 20 mins with my interviewer...she asked me how I was and if I was nervous...I was!!!! She asked me about situations like how I deal with conflict between co-workers (referred to chain of command), what are things that make me upset and how I would deal with it. She also asked me that if there was something a co-worker tells me is not being done at Cedars like insulin does not require a 2nd RN to check, how will I respond...I said I will not disregard what was said but since most of the hospitals require 2RN check, I will ask the charge nurse to verify/clarify and check the hospital policy and procedures. She also asked me what I would do if I realized I made a med error...I said I'll be honest and make sure that I assess my patient for possible outcomes or side effects, and then I will inform my charge nurse and the MD...as a result an incident report will be noted.

After my interview, I went back to my seat and then waited for a 2nd call...My name was called again and then I got to meet the director of the New grad program. and then that was it!!!! I can still remember to this day how I felt...Just practice answering some scenario questions because you never know what will be asked...Oh and before I forget, I was also asked what was I to do before giving Digoxin, I said I will assess for apical pulse for a whole minute...

I hope this helps you guys...good luck!!!

I really wanted to work at Cedars Sinai. May I ask how you found the new grad position? Is it too late to apply? Do you know if they will be having any more new grad programs in the future? Thank you sooo much. :)
