  1. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my worries and leave some comforting words. I will focus on the 97% and the fact that it was a subq injection.I feel better usually but sometimes I still think about it, I did not realize how traumatizing a needle stick incident is. Every time I give a shot, I always feel the way I felt after getting stuck.I'll keep praying for good news! Thanks again. I'll keep u posted
  2. Hello Everyone! I haven't logged in here for a while after getting a New Grad RN position, adjusting to a new job and gotten pregnant. I hope everyone is having a great life. Unfortunately, I came back to the forum for some comfort. I am in my 31st week of pregnancy and had a needle stick after giving an insulin shot right before shift change. Some how, the needle caught my finger while in the process of sliding the safety device. I am not sure how it happened but I squeezed a lot of blood from my finger after I took off my gloves. Proper protocol was initiated by our supervisors. The next day, I was assigned to the same patient and saw his lab results. His HIV and Hep B are negative, but somehow the Hep C appears slightly above the negative range. Per results, his Hep C antibody is 0.87 while the negative range is I wanted to break down and cry but I tried my best to finish my shift. I thought about my husband and especially this baby that is in my belly. I know that there is only 3% chance I will get hep c, but I am afraid that I will be the 3%. My emotions have been up and down since then, causing me to call in sick the next day. This would be our second child and always been thankful and blessed with a healthy first born. I could never forgive myself if I end up contracting Hep C and at the end infecting my 2nd baby. Did anyone have the same experience and turned out to be okay afterwards? All my baseline lab results are now negative, and will have another set of lab draw in 6 weeks. I wish you all the best. Any replies will be very much appreciated. Bebe1mee
  3. HI All, Regarding the open house, they will or maybe they already sent you a list of documents you need to place in a portfolio. I came to an auditorium where all the new grad candidates waited. We submitted our portfolio in a pile and was led in. We sat in the middle of the auditorium and waited for our name to be called. Once your name is called, you'll be escorted to an interviewer (CN IV or dept. manager). I think I spent about 20 mins with my interviewer...she asked me how I was and if I was nervous...I was!!!! She asked me about situations like how I deal with conflict between co-workers (referred to chain of command), what are things that make me upset and how I would deal with it. She also asked me that if there was something a co-worker tells me is not being done at Cedars like insulin does not require a 2nd RN to check, how will I respond...I said I will not disregard what was said but since most of the hospitals require 2RN check, I will ask the charge nurse to verify/clarify and check the hospital policy and procedures. She also asked me what I would do if I realized I made a med error...I said I'll be honest and make sure that I assess my patient for possible outcomes or side effects, and then I will inform my charge nurse and the MD...as a result an incident report will be noted. After my interview, I went back to my seat and then waited for a 2nd call...My name was called again and then I got to meet the director of the New grad program. and then that was it!!!! I can still remember to this day how I felt...Just practice answering some scenario questions because you never know what will be asked...Oh and before I forget, I was also asked what was I to do before giving Digoxin, I said I will assess for apical pulse for a whole minute... I hope this helps you guys...good luck!!!
  4. They will assign you to a unit where you will be staying while in the new grad program, I ended up staying in my unit after the program ended. Mostly everyone is helpful and nice to me...I guess like anyother work place, I tried to get to know everyone and I kept a positive attitude in accepting criticsms. You really cannot please everyone, there will always be those that will not like you...but as a new nurse that lack experience, find those nurses that are willing to help and stay away from those that don't want to deal with you hehe... In general, I am having fun and continue to be blessed. Good luck!!!! hope you get in the program :)
  5. good luck to all of you!!! Be confident...you guys got a call for an interview because you are great...i got in the summer 2010 new grad program and still here. Quick tip: Dress to impress, wear a blazer...my interviewer noted that i looked professional during interview.
  6. Is everyone ready to start the Residency Program?
  7. Hi Zanca, I'm from here in LA and will be starting the program soon...there are some areas that are not exactly around Cedars Sinai but are close enough to commute. Living close to Cedars is so expensive, so if you need cities to look at, you can look at Glendale, Burbank, Eagle Rock, or Pasadena. I take the side streets from Eagle Rock to go to work (I currently work at Cedars) and it takes me about 40 mins with minimal traffic and an hour if there's traffic. I hope you find a good place to live in... If you want to have an idea how much are rents in these areas, you can check Craigslist.com. I live in a 1 bed/1 bath apt and pays $1020 a month... Good luck and take care!!! Bebe1mee
  8. I just got my rejection letter today too...
  9. gem0607 and jyaa, don't be discouraged...the right place will come...hang in there and keep praying, keep applying. good luck to all of us!!!
  10. I also got a call last friday (before Memorial Wkend) but I missed it. They left me a voicemail for an interview for June 14...I had to say no because I got accepted somewhere else an hour before they called me. I felt bad saying NO and still wanted to go to the interview, but I did not want to be greedy and would like other new grads like me to get a shot at this position at a wonderful hospital. I used to work here at a different unit as a Unit Secretary and know for sure that this is a great institution for children...Good luck to all of us!!!
  11. Wow!!!! Congratulations!!!!
  12. Hello All, I called and left a message for the Nurse recruiter. To my surpise she returned my call and left a message in my voicemail. She said that the reason for the delay is because they went through their internal applicants first and will be looking at external applicants this week...She said to give them a couple of weeks. We will get either a call to schedule for an interview or a letter stating that we were not selected. She was nice and said that if I get a letter, it does not mean that I did anything wrong but only because they have too many applicants. I hope this info helps and that we all get a call instead of the letter... Good luck! BEBE1mee
  13. now, I feel even more nervous. Good luck everyone
  14. Hey guys!!! I just want to wish everyone good luck on Friday!!! I am so nervous because everyone here are great candidates, while I'm just an average joe. I hope we all get in the program... I don't want to embarass myself, that is all I'm asking for...maybe no coffee for me that day...hehe
  15. Still no call too. I'm afraid to call them b'coz I don't want to upset them...So maybe let's wait until the end of the week... I feel funny that from nursing school to applying to new grad programs, I learned to be very careful not to upset anyone if I want to be given a chance...I hope I learn to get over my nerves...Good luck to all!!!!
