CDCR/ CA State prison schedule

Hello, I am interested in working for the CDCR/CA State Prison system in Northern CA. I was searching their website and could not find any info on schedules. Is it 4 10-HR shifts? What are the typical shift hours 7am-5pm, etc? Nights, weekend requirements? Is OT an expectation?

Any info would be helpful!

The reason you can't swap in the yard clinics is because everyone works Monday through Friday 0730 - 3:30pm with weekends and holidays off. The ER or TTA and the crisis bed unit work the 6-2,. 2-10pm, and 10 - 6am with these staff on various days off Monday/ Tuesday etc and work holidays so they can easily swap shifts.

Does anyone know if you can swap if you work registry? I have people tell me yes and no. Does anyone really know? If you do tell me what the rules are for CDCR. I currently work at CIM.

I have never seen or heard of registry swapping with state workers.

I'm noticing that all the rules are different for each facility. I messaged someone last night who works for Donovan and they said all nurses can swap shifts (even clinic nurses) but only after your probationary period. Also, their shifts are 8-4, 4-midnight, and midnight to 8. I appreciate all the info from everyone!

With those shift hours it will work. In the 3 prisons I have worked at, the TTA was always 6-2, 2-10, and 10-6 while clinics had hours such as 7:30-3:30pm so they can't swap with TTA staff.

You cannot swap in the clinics. You work M-F, weekends and holidays off.

Are you saying that shifts are 16 hours long??

Are there part-time jobs?

Does anyone know what type of shifts resource RN works? Is it M-F 7:30-3:30?

Also, most positions are limited term. Do they usually make you a permanent employee after 12 months?

There are creative ways to swap that almost completely eliminate the possibility of getting mandated and that give you at least 4 days off a week. I usually only work Fri/Sat/Sun or just Sat/Sun and get the rest of the week off on swaps. It depends if you are on a rotating cycle (different scheduled days off a week) or a fixed schedule (set days off). The major flexibility from swapping is one of the main reasons I've stuck with corrections. You can choose whether you want to do a lot of overtime or if you want a lot of time off, it's pretty awesome.

I know I’m a million years late but when you do a 16 is it still OT (pay) or no since that may be your regular schedule. Like if you’re scheduled for two 16s and an 8 is it OT pay on the 16 hr days
