CCM Exam April 2016

Published

Happy New Year to all!!!!!:starornament::snowflake::candycane:

I just registered to take my CCM for the April 2016 Exam!!!!! Anyone else taking it in April in Chicago? Maybe all of us can encourage each other regardless what city we live in.

Specializes in Infection Prevention& Control, Occupational Health.

Hi LJun- Good for you! I wish you good luck. I am a Field Case manager (mostly workers compensation) in California. My company requires CCM , COHN or CRRN designation within 2 years of hire. I took the CRRN exam in 1991 and passed- but accidentally let it lapse. I had been a stroke rehabilitation nurse for years so found the medical component easy- the legislation piece- not so much : )

So I wonder: which test is easier to pass- CCM or CRRN?? Anyone out there who has recently taken one or preferably both?

Specializes in prior auth.

Good luck! I just took my exam in early December and passed. The good thing is you don't have to wait for your results, you find out right after you take the exam.

I am generally a good multiple choice test taker and find most exams easy, but this was a little difficult for me. Most likely because I mostly do prior auth which is way different than other areas of case management. I'm sure you'll do fine as long as you study the book and take the test questions.

ETA: The exam seemed to have a lot of questions pertaining to rehab.

Thanks so much for that helpful information yzarcn- and congrats to you!!

Specializes in Case Management.

Best of Luck - I myself am not a nurse but stumbled into case management by accident as a "Admin Assistance" that wore way too many hats at a startup company in Workers Comp... I worked there for a little over 2 yrs and was then hired by a prominent Insurance plan in california. After being with them for about 6 months i decided to study for and take the CCM. I passed the first try back in May 2015! It is really not that difficult if you have the experience to back it up :)

Specializes in Utilization Review, Critical Care, OR, SNF.

Hi there--I took and passed the CCM in December as well. I'm in utilization management so I was a little worried about this exam because of my narrow focus (I only do inpatient UM). I put a good amount of time studying for this test (at least it seemed so to me)....1-2 hours per day, 4 hours on the weekend days, over a two month time span. I felt pretty prepared. The test isn't as brutal as the CCRN which I took back in the day, but it's no piece of cake either. Probably the smartest thing I did was pay for the CCMC mock exam about 4 weeks into my studying. I passed, and it gave me a boost of confidence that really helped. It also helped me focus on the weak points/gaps in what I needed to study. Good luck!!

Thank you that helps.

Oh, and congratulations to you all for passing your exam!!!! I'm sure I will do fine once I put my mind to studying.

I'm a hospital case management nurse and have held my CCM certification for many years. When I took the exam, I passed it but found it quite difficult. I attribute my better than expected scores to a lot of studying and a review course, which I considered a very good investment. I'm looking into taking the ACM since I've been an ACMA member for a while and it focuses predominantly hospital case management and acute care continuums. Even if I earned the ACM, I would never let my CCM lapse.

Can anyone recommend a good CCM review book?

Hi! I'm scheduled to take the test in August and it will consist of the new blueprint. Good luck to everyone that will be taking it in April! When you are done if anyone has any books/study aids they would like to sell please get in touch with me, I might be interested...thanks!

I just took the August CCM exam. It was nothing like I expected! I definitely over studied (spent about 200 hours). The exam itself seemed to be quite superficial. Seemed the only in depth questions were around work comp and behavioral health. I finished in 2 hrs. I did spend the money on a 2 day course which I can tell you it's not needed. Only about 15% of the content of the book from the course was on the test. I do think it's very unfair they make you wait till 10/31 while they " run the numbers" to determine what is passing. That's 10 weeks from now! If you have been a nurse in the case management area for any length of time, you probably know all the answers. The process to sign in to the testing center sure was interesting. I thought you only got wanded at the airport, no so. Apparently, you're a danger during your exam. Hope this helps.
