CCAC Spring 2010

Published

Just curious if any who have applied have heard if they've been accepted to CCAC Nursing program for Spring 2010 admittance?

Also, does anyone out there know what the likelihood is of getting your fist choice?

Just curious, how old is everybody? Any moms? full time workers?

I'm 25. No kids, no husband. Live with my boyfriend :redpinkhe. Working full-time right now but may go to part-time if I need to focus more on school.

I GOT MY FIRST CHOICE - BOYCE FAST TRACK!! Serenity - maybe we'll be classmates!

Congrats to all - anyone who didn't make it, try next semester and you'll get it!

YAY! :loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya:

Congratulations!!! Maybe we will be classmates; that would be great! I can't wait for orientation (Lord only knows when we'll find out about that) so we can get registered for classes!

I am 42 and a single mother of 3 children aged 10, 8 & 18 months. I work part time for Home instead senior care. When we start classes in January I will probably just do an on call schedule. (since we will be in classes 4 days a week)

There are the forms and info for the things we need to get done before December 18th.

- CPR Certification it's like $85 from Red Cross if you don't have it. Last class is for December 10th NEED TO REGISTER FOR IT BY DECEMBER 9th at 12:00am

- FBI Background Check $36 need to go to a print center and get your prints taken

https://www.pa.cogentid.com/index_dpw.htm

- PA State Background Check $10 online

https://epatch.state.pa.us/RecordCheckEntry.jsp?action=new

- PA Child Abuse Clearances $10 need to mail in a form that will be in the packet

- Drug Test. Isn't covered by health insurance. Ask your Dr.'s office how much. I know Jefferson Hospital is the cheapest at $35 and Concentra Medical Centers is $60

- TB PPD test and record of Immunizations form to be filled out by your PCP

Our uniforms will be purchased at the orientations and they will have fittings. For one whole uniform lab coat and warm up jacket you're looking at $100 - $200 depending on what size you need (big girls like me will be on the $200 end! LOL)

We need white nurse tennis shoes NO CLOGS. Or white tennis shoes with no lines patterns or other colors. We need small bandage scissors, a pen light, a watch with a second hand, and of course a stethoscope. We DON'T need a BP cuff but it would be good to have one to practice with especially if you have no training with one like me lol. I got all of my stuff off ebay today.

Our textbooks won't be available until January 1st. There are required texts and recommended texts. The required ones come in a prepackaged set for NRN students. It's about 10 books and it's like $650. Some say it's easier to find the books somewhere else separately but the nursing dept. doesn't reccommend it because you will be needing the discs and bonus material included with them. We also must purchase a CCAC health tote bag which is $90 freakin dollars! From the bookstore.

Other than that I think I covered the basics you'll know more when you get your packet.

Thank you so much for the info!

Thanks so much for the information!

$90 for a freaking tote bag? Like we're not paying enough already!!

WOW! Boyce campus is on it! Good for you guys!!!!:yeah::yeah:

Thanks for posting the info on packets too!

Specializes in ICU, Step-down, CCU.

excuse me for the dumb question (but I am a guy, so you can say all the guy jokes it is okay).

a tote bag? to tote what for 90 bucks?

on the background checks.. I work in aviation, you may want to move quickly on them. State Police, if you need yours researched can take up to 2 weeks.

On the prints, a CHRC by FBI quotes up to a month. Since most prints these days are electronic, they are "suppose" to be done in 3 days, but I have seen people with crystal clean records take a week or more and 1 person I knew took almost a month, granted they were not an American citizens.

I have a mandatory background check every year, so I am well versed in the time lines and I was on the hiring committee for a airline and witnessed the process first hand.

thanks for posting the info!

I'm ok with it. If the 90$ tote gets me an RN after my name then consider it bought lol
