CCAC Spring 2018 Hopefuls

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who have applied, and are anxious waiting to find out if we got in. I can hardly think of anything else!

Let's talk!

That is helpful! Maybe you could see if you can transfer to other campuses during the program?

Rory, she told me that, yes, transfers between campuses are possible while you are in the program. The main restrictions are that there has to be a spot open at the campus where you want to transfer to and you have to have passing grades in the nursing program at the campus that you are originally at.

T_gnan, she doesn't know anything specific about the lpn-to-rn program since she's in the regular rn program. The same goes for my other coworkers. They are guessing that you just have to take less classes than people without an lpn, so overall tuition is cheaper and you won't have to buy books for those other classes that you can skip. They weren't able to give me any specifics though.

I applied closest to the September 15th deadline, did anyone else? So far I haven't heard anything back yet.

I found out today that I was accepted to Boyce day program. There was a freak error made which delayed everything. Everyone at CCAC has been helpful in getting that resolved. So hi to my fellow Boyce Day classmates!

Amber did say that program specific packets would not be going out until later this week.

Does anyone know if we need to be CPR certified by the start of the program?

I just let mine lapse so I need to get up to date ASAP if necessary.

We probably do but i dont know for sure. When i went to St Margarets for my LPN in 2009, we did. That info should be in the packets we're waiting for.

Anyone know if they make you get a new CPR certification dated after the packet goes out? I just got CPR certified 6 months ago, and would super love to avoid doing it again soon!

So I received my packet in the mail today! To anyone else who has gotten theirs, are you confused about our clinicals will align with the course/lab scheduling?

I got my packet today too. Woohoo! I think that from here on out, the timing of mailings and such will depend on which campus/programs people applied too, since Rory and I both happen to be in the Boyce day program.

Rory, from what I can tell from the packet, for the clinicals, there is a separate registration form that we haven't received yet where we determine when our clinical day is. It's supposed to be on Mon, Thur, or Fri from 7a-3p. (I got this info from the orange sheet in our packet.) I think that will be determined by lottery too once they figure out what our clinical options are.

To those of you with recent questions about CPR certification, the info in my packet says that any previous CPR certifications are considered valid until their expiration date, and then they list different places to get CPR certified (Red Cross, AHA, etc.). It says that it needs to be a Healthcare Provider CPR with AED course.

There's additional info about required orientation dates and stuff, but they look like they're very specific to the campus/program that you got accepted into, since all of mine occur at the Boyce program, where I'll be attending.

Good luck, folks. It's gonna be an exciting Spring.

I got my packet too! Looking forward to meeting Boyce Day folks at orientation!

I paid my ransom Castlebranch and that system seems weird. I also made an appointment to meet with the nursing advisor at Boyce and got weird emails from her that didn't make sense, like she asked me to bring in my CCAC transcripts (doesn't she have those?) I'm assuming she was just very busy. It's just nice to get emailed back so I'll take it.

My next source of anxiety is dealing with this CPR certification. I signed up for a class that has an online component. I assume it's like taking a science class online; take the lecture online; learn CPR in "lab" It's a Red Cross class and I'll get my normal Red Cross certification. In our paperwork it says "NO ONLINE CLASSES." I hope this doesn't apply to mine because if it isn't "valid" to CCAC, I just lit $84 on fire. Does anyone know about that?

I'm just looking forward to getting all of this paperwork and craziness done and getting started!

Has anyone from Allegheny campus received their packet yet?

I have not received my packet. I'll post as soon as I get it. Is there a Facebook group for ccac nursing?
