CCAC Spring 2018 Hopefuls

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who have applied, and are anxious waiting to find out if we got in. I can hardly think of anything else!

Let's talk!

I know they were sending letters out in batches! I hope you receive your letter tomorrowí ½í¸Š. If you don't I'd try and call Amber. I was able to get her between 9:30am and 10am.

I applied july 1st. I went to Boyce and personally handed my stuff in. I emailed Amber last week and she actually emailed me back (she never does) and said that not all the letters were mailed yet and that the LPN letters went out over the weekend. I still have not received one :( Hopefully tomorrow!

Still no letter!

I did mine right before the August priority date and still haven't received mine either!

What campus did you apply for rory?

I got my letter today! Got accepted to Boyce fast track, just what i wanted :) BUT it said I had to accept my seat by Oct 5th! Guess I'll be trying to get ahold of someone on Monday...

I believe I Boyce day was my first choice, but I am pretty bummed out I still haven't received mine. I'll try contacting Amber on Monday

Talked to Amber today and she said I was accepted to Boyce day and my letter was lost in the mail!

Congratulations!

Congrats!! Will someone post once they receive their packet?

Heya guys, So one of my coworkers has already been in the program for a while and she gave me some info that I thought some of you might find useful. She said that before we do our medical exams and drug tests and such, we should just wait until we receive the paperwork in our packets. There will be forms that are supposed to be filled out and signed by the people who perform the tests. There's some online service called castlegate (or something like that) that we will have to pay about $100 to use, and we upload all of our medical clearance documents and stuff to that site and then CCAC accesses them from there. She also said that even if you had some of these tests done this past year, you'll probably still have to get new ones done for the paperwork in the packets since the ccac folks are kinda picky about when all these tests get done. She told me she had a TB test done for her job like 4 months before she entered the program but that she was required to have the test done again for the paperwork in the packet. So: wait until the packet arrives, and then get the tests done when it tells you to do them.

Here's some other random stuff she told me. For the first few semesters, a typical schedule will consist of classes/labs on two days per week (with those taking up about five hours on each of those days). And then there's a third day of clinicals, which are usually spent at places like hospitals and nursing homes. In the first semester, clinical day is about 8 hours long, but the total number of weekly clinical hours increases in later semesters.

The schedules are posted online already for the nursing classes (except for the clinicals), but we don't register for them the way we are used to. The nursing program uses a lottery system, where they randomly decide the order in which students get to pick their schedules. So people who are lucky enough to choose first will get their top choices for class schedules, and people who have to pick later must choose among whatever spots are left in the schedule. They use a similar system to determine the days/times when we go to clinicals, with some lucky folks getting their top picks, while others have to choose from whatever is not filled already. I think there's an orientation day that we have to attend eventually where all this lottery stuff takes place.

Alright, that's all I can think of for now. If you guys have other questions, let me know and I can run them by my coworkers when I see them.

Can you ask about cost? Nobody at ccac seems to know how much the lpn-rn program costs. Thanks for the info!
