U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi All!

Just sending out a good luck huzzah to everyone applying for the Spring 2015 cohort at the Community College of Allegheny County.

We can start applying tomorrow and the the deadline is August 15.

I am all done with my pre-reqs and co-reqs, so am excited to get this application process rolling. I am going tomorrow to meet with an advisor to be sure all of my ducks are in a row.

Anyone else out there applying?

Thank you! I guess I should look at the manual.... :x3:

I did get started already today and did Chapter 1 of Fundamentals. Trying to get on top of things asap.

You will use your ATI books throughout the semester, however the teachers will make products available on the website, which is only a couple practice tests and videos that you have to watch to learn how to navigate the website. Then you will use the website more towards the 14th week when you take the ati test! I was just asking about which books you need because I need to buy a code from the bookstore but I already have the books from last semester! I thought I needed to buy new books I was so mad!!

That last book that they mentioned we needed yesterday is:

[h=1]Skill Checklists for Fundamentals of Nursing: The Art and Science of Person-Centered Nursing Care Paperback – October 2, 2014[/h]

by Carol Taylor PhD MSN RN (Author), Carol Lillis RN MSN (Author), & 1 more

Hi! I have a question guys: I bought the seventh edition of fundamentals of nursing by Taylor, however I saw there is a new edition of this book. Do you happen to know which edition the school will use? thanks!

Because of your concerned, I force myself to opened the package and confirmed that we have the same issue about edition for Fundamentals of Nursing - Taylor, 7th Edition. There is a new edition(8th) circulating on the web right now and same 8th edition stated in our NUR110 white packet (syllabus) given Yesterday.

Can anybody here, break their silence of what edition (Funda-Taylor) you have got from the CCAC Allegheny Campus bookstore? Anybody got the latest 8th edition from the CCAC bookstore?

If you go back and read through this thread, Goldschmitty opened her bundle, that she purchased at the bookstore awhile ago, and posted what was inside:

Book and CD

Fundamentals of Nursing

The art Nd science of nursing care

Seventh edition

Taylor, lillis, lemone, lynn

ISBN-13: 978-0-7817-9383-4

ISBN-10: 0-7817-9383-1

In my experience, when editions are released so closely together (2011 7th, 2014 8th) the changes are really minor. Hopefully if people end up having a slightly different edition, it won't be your demise in the class. The pictures might look slightly different. An added chart or two. I would just find someone in class and quickly flip through the pages to make sure they look the same :) I think this is different when editions are release 10 years apart, but even then sometimes the changes are mostly cosmetic.

I saw previously that a group of students on AllNurses made a Facebook group for people who started at the same time as them. Is this something you all would like to set up? It seems like it would be easier than sorting through this really long thread. Would be hoping people could use it professionally, and not as a place to vent. More to share study tips, ask questions on material set up study groups, etc. Since all of the campuses are doing slightly different things, maybe could set it up by campus? Let me know if you are interested!

Hi Hotlipshoulihan and Chrispitt11, thanks for answer. I was confused about the last book mentioned on orientation day (Skill Checklists for Fundamentals of Nursing: The Art and Science of Person-Centered Nursing Care ) I think this one is related to the 8th edition however I think it doesn't matter though. The skills must be the same.

Hi!

When i search on the ccac bookstore site for Nur 120 a nursing assessment book comes up. But its not on the book list that they gave us. Does anyone know if we need this?

thanks!

How was orientation? Do you find out your clinical site? I have men at Boyce tomorrow.

I'm all in for the Facebook group! I think it's a great idea. :)
