Hello! I understand that BRN does not need a local license but in Texas I think they do require a local license. I'm confused because here in the threads they mentioned that it doesn't require a local license but in the Texas board of nursing forms, there is a portion for license verification for graduates outside the US. Please advice.

Thanks!

BON's can change so always best to go with whatever the BON website states. If it asks for local license then unless there is a valid reason on why you haven't taken it ie like the Philippines where you have to be a citizen to sit the exam then you will have to meet their requirements

Welcome to the site

I just called the Texas State board of nursing, and was told you don't need a SSN#.

That is not what their website has stated. They will let someone take the exam, but the actual license number is not issued without a SSN#. And that means that the nurse is in the US and holds a visa that will permit them to work.

But if they have changed their rules, then why are you complaining about what AZ is doing now, and why they were not doing that from the beginning? Now you are saying that Texas will issue a license when the nurse is not legal here in the US.

You need to go by what is in writing on the website, not what an operator has told you. Written word always wins.

In addition to what ma'am suzanne4 has mentioned below, I have a schoolmate who applied at TX and passed the NCLEX-RN exam yet she still doesn't have the license. She was required to submit her US SSN.

Thanks for posting that, and that is what has been in place in Texas for a very long time. No SSN# and no actual license issued.

please lets go back to what was being discussed in the original post of this thread, it is about ca brn asking for the local license.

it has nothing to do with any other states at all.

thank you.
