case study on a diabetic question

Published

Hi

I am doing a cse study(my 1st :yeah: ) I have a couple of questions i am having trouble finding the correct answer

1) George has an unhealing diabetic leg ulcer, How would you determine which bacterium is causing the exudate?

2)How would you choose the correct antibiotic to treat George's infection

3) George has reversible airways obstruction. He probably has asthma as well as chronic obstructive airways disease, resulting from smoking What are the groups of drugs used to treat George's respiratory condition? Describe the mode of action of each group.

4) what are the the major groups of pain medications, and describe their modes of action

I have looked and looked :banghead:i would really love some help i have done 30/35 question so far

Thankyou

as a nurse of 32 years i like to think that i can tell when someone is asking for help or trying to get someone to do their homework for them. some questions are based on clinical experience which nursing textbooks aren't always real good at explaining!

the idea that getting answers from someone to questions here is plagiarism would make this forum void and need to shut down, wouldn't it? then, how are you going to find things out?

the things the student was asking for can be found in basic med surg texts.

i say this with no disrespect intended- my opinion is that you flat-out gave her the answers. period.

i think that an experienced nurse should be able to tell when a student is stuck. after all, we've all been students too and i can remember being puzzled by the same kinds of questions that really required some experience in the clinical area to understand them much better. i've precepted a lot of new grads and there's a lot that nursing school just doesn't prepare students for. many nursing instructors come from a clinical background and to their credit are trying to prepare their students to go into clinical practice without always following up with clinical practice because the opportunities just aren't available. clinical experience really locks these concepts in. for that reason, i don't have a problem answering these questions.

I start the nursing program this fall and I'm excited that I got all the answers right except question 4. These look like fun to do! Can't wait!

I gave her direction, not all the complete answers. This is the Nursing Student Assistance Forum. Thats what we do here.

The questions that i posted had more invloved for example questions example

Name the major groups of pain medications, and explain their modes of action and what would be suitable for George.

I did not ask the full questions on any of them. I think a few people are TOO big for their BOOTS. I hope that when i do finish my degree i do become a nurse i get to work with nurses :nurse: like daytonite and not the others that are judgemental are critical. Please if you dont want to help the students on this site, What are you doing? This is what this site is all about.

As a nurse of almost nineteen years experience (and tutor of nursing & medical students, and preceptor of grads & nursing students), I like to have an idea what students have already thought of themselves, first, rather than just supplying the answers.

For example, did studentmumof4 realise that questions one and two are related? Given the ease of discovering some of the pharmaceutical information (ie classes of drugs and their modes of action), did she already know that and only want suggestions on the most appropriate for this condition?

In my experience information sticks better when the learner is actively involved in the process rather than a passive recipient of information. I would rather engage in a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of different drugs (eg side effects, cross-interactions), allowing the student not only to find the best answer for herself (with guidance) but also teach her skills she can then use in the future.

Studentmumof4 I'm sorry you see the legitimate concerns of other members as being ego-driven. Please keep in mind that, while your enquiry may very well have been after a genuine attempt to uncover the answers yourself, there are a number of students who post here expecting the work to be done for them. For that reason, as I posted above, allnurses folk will feel less conflicted about helping if you demonstrate that you've already given some thought to the questions before posting. If nothing else that will help you work out where you might have gone wrong, which will help you with future research.

Hi im currently attempting the same case study, although i have completed all the questions im just looking for clarrification. It is near impossible to plagerise the stuff given in the forum as you still have to research the subject and come up with appropriate references plus we are tested on what is in the case study so a deeper understanding is needed. Alot of the stuff within the case study has not been lectured on and we have had limited experience in the nursing field. It is good to come to the forum to get some advice and to set us on the right track. Please think wisely before making comments as they can be taken the wrong way. As nurses we should work together in order to be stronger and to learn from our more experienced peers. thanks
