From what I gathered from class is that we as students can not practice nursing in any form as a student outside of the school setting. It must be diff here in CO. Now being an assistant is different from actually practicing nursing which is what I thought was happening. Also, my teacher is the one who told us we were working under her license. Maybe she meant it theoretically! LOL Maybe it is a myth.

Hello all. I have a question about travel nursing with kids. Is it possible even during the school year? The idea I had going was, say I took an assignment in LA and their long assinments like 3 months at a time, brought my kids with me, enrolled them in school and before my assignment was up apply for the next one in the same area and keep doing this until the end of the school year. Could this be possible? Advice much appreciated.

Hi, I don't think anyone anywhere will hire you as a student nurse. In school we are working under our teachers license. You need to be licensed to work as a "nurse" except at clinicals where of course we don't get paid. Their is no such thing as a "Student nurse license" in which to work under. I think it would be illegal for you to be hired and perform nursing duties with out licensure. I know some hospitals will let students shadow but you don't get paid. Maybe I read your post wrong though and your just looking for another position at camp to work. If thats the case ignore me! LOL

I'm just a student right now but I spent all my clinicals this past semster at a nursing home and yeah it was just like that there. I watched so much happen that should have not been happening (I reported the critical mistakes to no avail) I was so depressed over thanksgiving break. I'm definately not going into LTC after graduation! Next semester were doing OB and peds...I can't wait!

A UN job sounds VERY interesting. Sorry I have know info for you but thanks for the idea. I'm a student right now thinking through all the possibillities after graduation.

I'm laughing because what one person thinks looks proffessional or stylish may be completely different. I so love the old school punk look. I have a spetum ring and tatoos. I personally would not be bothered if my nurse or doctor had any of these. I totally agree that plain does not = proffessional. But I know the majoraity of people are not going to accept my personal style and I will do what ever I have to be a working nurse. I actually start the nursing program this fall and miss my dreads already

Hi, I start the nursing program here at Trinidad State Junior college this fall. My two children 7 and 5 will be in school. I personally waited until my youngest was 4 and attending headstart before taking my prereqs. In retrospect I could have taking many of the classes online. I have taken two biology classes online one with a lab and one without. The online labs are way more intense and time consuming than when done in a classroom. Are you starting the nursing program or prereqs? Anyhow, The child care thing can be tricky. Over the two years of prereqs and using daycare part time I have developed a friend ship with the provider and she is willing to come early and stay late for my clinicals and such. I think you'll find a day care that might be willing to help if you ask. Most people have to be at work by 8 so it is a strange time to open. I know here most open by 7 or 7:30. Starting this fall I will have to pay the full child care expense. I plan on taking out a student loan to pay. A stafford loan to be exact. It does not acrrue interest until 6 months after you graduate and you don't have to start paying it back until 6 months after you graduate. And if you don't make it through nursing school (I asked this for myself) how the heck will you pay it back? Its based on your income. I did the math based on my income right now and the monthly payments were not that much. Its doable. Being a single mom going to school I have much guilt about not spending enough time with my kliddos but in the end it will be better for us all. Just think of the example were setting for them too! When my son has a hard day at school I can relate and it makes a big difference in his attitude about school work. Sometimes I even get the kids in on helping me study that way they don't feel so left out. When I look at slides they do too. When I'm doing lab experiments I get them involved if possible. I even got them involved in creating case reports that I had to rewrite using medical terminology. Haha...sometimes this is the only way we can spend time together. Good luck!

Wow! this is so cool! I'm a pre nusring student with only 3 pre reqs left. I have decided to go to massage school this fall before I finish them. I never really knew that other people were doing massage and nursing. Actually I'm wondering whether I should finish with nursing school first than go to massage. I was thinking I could do massage for extra cash while in the nursing program though. Do you all think I should wait or go ahead with massage first? Thanks, Kamille.

I'am. It looks pretty easy compared to my other classes. We have our first exam on monday.
