Wellpoint/Anthem BCBS phone interview

Specialties Case Management

Published

I just had a 35 minute phone interview for a Nurse Case Manager with Wellpoint. Boy, was it tedious!! Lots of those questions that I hate, ie. What are your strengths/weaknesses, tell me about a time when you had a conflict at work and what did you do about it? Yikes! It seemed like some of the questions were the same only with the words changed around, and it kept going and going. Anyway, I think it went pretty well. Anyone who works for Wellpoint with a telecommuting position...what is the next step? An in-person interview? Straight to an offer/rejection? How long does it take? I wonder because they said the start date is 6/2, and that's only a little over three weeks away, and I have to give a 30-day notice. That's going to take some rearranging of the work schedule, to say the least. Any insight is appreciated.

I just accepted this position with a start date of 7/7. Does anyone have any experience with Wellpoint?

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

Congrats! Thanks for keeping us posted. Hoepfully this time around someone will be able to answer your question. :)

Hi! Congrats on your new position w/WellPoint! I started in the Va Beach office on 4/28. I just finished the company /computer training and will start training on the floor tomorrow! So far I think I'm going to really like it . I am a nurse Medical Management 2/UM nurse! Where are you going to work?

ER_RN07,

I will be going to the Virginia Beach office for my training! I'm about two hours southwest of there in northeastern NC, after training I will be working from home. I'm super excited! When I applied and interviewed for the job I thought it was based in Richmond, I was surprised to find I would be going to Virginia Beach. How is the culture there? Are the people nice? I'm brand new to case managment after 20 years of bedside nursing. I've been wanting to do this for a long time.

Everyone seems really nice! We had 3 case managers in my orientation class who were going to be working from home ! Like you, I've spent the last 20 years at the bedside (CNA, LPN and RN) w/the last 13 yrs in the ER. To say its a culture shock would be an understatement lol !

I spent the first 8 years of my nursing career in the ER, and the last 11 in OB/L&D/Mother-Baby. It's been a wild ride but I'm ready for a change. Culture shock, bring it on!

Congrats on your Wellpoint positions you two! Is the pay decent? Thanks!

Yes, the pay is very decent, especially considering that I don't have to drive anywhere or buy work clothes. It is very comparable to what I make as a staff nurse on day shift, and there are opportunities for bonuses and merit raises every year. The benefits seem to be great. Also, no weekends, holidays, call, or nights. I'm totally happy.

ER_RN07, it's been a couple of weeks, how's it going on your new job?

Wellpoint is a company that had a favorable image on severalInternet review websites. The one I generally use is GLASSDOOR.COM. The reviewsI found led me to seek Wellpoint as a company I waned to work for based onfavorable employee comments about the work environment. Overall it appeared tobe favorably comparable to similar large insurance companies in terms ofemployee ratings and comments, as well as benefits. I am hoping that Wellpointwill open a branch near me or offer work-at-home positions in Central Florida. I spent most of my case management career working out ofmy home and found it more productive [less distracting] than an office. Plusnot having to commute allowed me to do so many other things, including a daily exerciseregimen that helps me feel refreshed for the day.

It's going good so far! It's a huge learning curve for me, but I'm catching on lol! I'm loving the hours, the week goes by so fast.....but of coorifice so do the weekends :/

Are you in orientation now?
