Wellpoint/Anthem BCBS phone interview

Specialties Case Management

Published

I just had a 35 minute phone interview for a Nurse Case Manager with Wellpoint. Boy, was it tedious!! Lots of those questions that I hate, ie. What are your strengths/weaknesses, tell me about a time when you had a conflict at work and what did you do about it? Yikes! It seemed like some of the questions were the same only with the words changed around, and it kept going and going. Anyway, I think it went pretty well. Anyone who works for Wellpoint with a telecommuting position...what is the next step? An in-person interview? Straight to an offer/rejection? How long does it take? I wonder because they said the start date is 6/2, and that's only a little over three weeks away, and I have to give a 30-day notice. That's going to take some rearranging of the work schedule, to say the least. Any insight is appreciated.

Cosmicmama, how is Wellpoint working out for you? I've still got many applications pending, so I wanted to live vicariously through you :) No word on my applications yet. I tried to send you a PM, but I don't have enough topics yet! Back in the old days (10 years ago) when I was active here, that wasn't a requirement :)

What is your typical day looking like? Pretty flexible?

I LOVE it! Honestly though, I'm working under a new program and we still haven't got fully rolling yet, I'm expecting things to get much busier in the future. Right now my day is really flexible. (I have set hours, but I can throw in a load of laundry, run to the bank if I need to, that sort of thing). I can tell you this though, for me, it appears that getting out of bedside nursing was the best thing I've done for myself in a very long time. I am physically feeling so much better, have a much better work-life balance,and I've started exercising and eating better because my routine is so much more manageable. And Wellpoint is REALLY big on employee wellness, they have a lot of little benefits like they pay for your gym membership, and I've got a FREE health coach I'm working with. I'm very happy that I made the move. :)

I am so happy that you are liking it so much! I am still waiting for a response to my resumes and applications. I wonder if they offer 10 hour shifts? That is what I have had for the past 6 years, and love it. I hope that a recruiter calls me soon... its hard waiting! lol

Sounds wonderful, glad you found a great position. May I ask what state you were hired in, for some of these companies only hire in certain areas. Thanks so much!

Glad that you're liking the new position. I can't wait for the day that I can put bedside nursing behind me for good. If you don't mind me asking, did you have prior experience in CM when you applied? I've applied to several WAH positions including one specifically for NC/VA nurses. So far I've had no luck. I'm now thinking about applying to temp agencies just to get the experience. Any thoughts?

My office in in Virginia, but I live in NC about two hours away. They require you to be within traveling distance to the office.

No, I didn't, but I had 20 years of diverse nursing experience including ER, OB, a little MDS in long term care, and a little home health.

Thanks for your reply. Many of us from Maryland have applied numerous times to all the telecommute positions and none of us have gotten an interview and we are medical case managers. We all receive the same generic email......"we are sorry the position has already been filled blah, blah, blah".

I'm still waiting on some contact from wellpoint. It's been about 6 weeks, and I still haven't heard anything from them. My applications are still sitting at the "resume received" status. The wait is killing me! lol

@cosmicmama,

hey, I will be starting my new position with WellPoint soon as a nurse case manager working from home. I have a question: I have received a computer, two monitors, printer/fax, office supplies but not an office phone. Did you receive a company desk phone? I just wanted to see what your experience is with this before I call and ask them about it. I want to make sure I have all the necessary equipment! Thank you!!

I just got your message Cosmicmama, and I will find that imformation as soon as I get home from work tonight. Thank you! I tried to send you a PM, but I don't have enough posts yet :)
