Wellpoint/Anthem BCBS phone interview

Specialties Case Management

I just had a 35 minute phone interview for a Nurse Case Manager with Wellpoint. Boy, was it tedious!! Lots of those questions that I hate, ie. What are your strengths/weaknesses, tell me about a time when you had a conflict at work and what did you do about it? Yikes! It seemed like some of the questions were the same only with the words changed around, and it kept going and going. Anyway, I think it went pretty well. Anyone who works for Wellpoint with a telecommuting position...what is the next step? An in-person interview? Straight to an offer/rejection? How long does it take? I wonder because they said the start date is 6/2, and that's only a little over three weeks away, and I have to give a 30-day notice. That's going to take some rearranging of the work schedule, to say the least. Any insight is appreciated.

I'm still waiting on some contact from wellpoint. It's been about 6 weeks, and I still haven't heard anything from them. My applications are still sitting at the "resume received" status. The wait is killing me! lol

I know how you feel Techno! My apps are just sitting there in limbo. It's super competitive out there since so many nurses are attempting to get into this field. I think that I may be at a disadvantage since there are no Wellpoint offices in my state. The nearest office is in VA and I think that they give preference to those that live within the same state where the office is located. Well back to searching jobs.

cosmicMama, your PM box is full! Lol. Did you get my email?

Thank you for your honesty about this type of position as I am considering applying for such. I'm learning the hard way how companies use metrics to push a nurse to produce results, almost over the edge! :woot:

Vabeacnurse,

Yes, you should get a phone. Some of the people in orientation with me hadn't gotten their phones, then they had to scramble to get it and set it up when they got home from on-site training so they could take part in on-the-job-training I would call and ask about it.

@cosmicmama,

hey, I will be starting my new position with WellPoint soon as a nurse case manager working from home. I have a question: I have received a computer, two monitors, printer/fax, office supplies but not an office phone. Did you receive a company desk phone? I just wanted to see what your experience is with this before I call and ask them about it. I want to make sure I have all the necessary equipment! Thank you!!

Hello Nurses, I have a question. Does anyone know anyone with CPHM? If so, do you guys think its a worthwhile investment for certification and if it will help at all in getting a case management or UM position for managed care. I too had a phone interview with Wellpoint back in the spring and I pretty much knew I did not get it during the call because the recruiter said he was very impressed with my interview but he was concerned about my lack of acute care experience. I am case manager for a specialty pharmacy right now.

I think the only certification for UM is CCM (Certified Case Manager), that is recognized. I applied at Wellpoint and got an interview, however I turned down the job, I just got so sick and tired of the behavioral interview process, I withdrew my application. How I got in was I knew someone who got me the interview. I was referred. The job pool is wide open, but they hire quicker if you are referred in.

Just a little FYI....

RN in FL,

Thanks so much for you response! I guess I will do more research on this certificate. Its Certified Professional Health Management from McKesson and it combines UM and UR. I cant do CCM yet because I just now landed a case manager position at one of Centene's specialty companies and even then I don't know if it will qualify me to sit for the CCM. We shall see. Thanks!

@cosmicmama and @vabeachnurse_, are you both still with Wellpoint and enjoying it? Wellpoint/Anthem is one of the companies I am looking into right now. Any tips on the current hiring process or how often case manager positions are available? I'm still a few months out from seriously looking. I'm in my information gathering phase! LOL! @vabeachnurse_, are you involved in any of the local nursing/CM associations?

I have been working as a case manager since 10/2014 for AMerigroup which is ANthem BLue Cross Blue Shield. I like my job a lot. But I have always wanted to work from home. Yes, it is about the numbers but there are so many other benefits. One of the downsides is the pay was a lot lower than I was use to but the trade off is I get to work from home. I like the company though and would recommend the case manager position.

I work for Anthem also. First was Amerigroup then Wellpoint, now its Anthem. I'm a nurse case manager and i work from home. I love my job. I've been with them for 3 yrs and have no complaints. Its a great company to work for :)
